Considering the massacres we have seen lately my gut says no.

I don't think we make one the next two years and I'm optimistic we doesn't actually coach his whole contract so I think we've seen his last one.

Since we haven't been close to winning one in the past 3 years even with a pretty good team last year I'd say there is little chance unless we get a 3rd place MAC team in Detroit.

If the defense doesn't kick it up a notch, Iowa will always be behind the 8 ball. Will always be behind 4 touchdowns in the first quarter to the invariably good offenses of bowl teams...A bowl team can get away with a pedestrian offense if the defense is outstanding. Iowa's is not.

I remember when one of the things Hawk fans could tout was Kirk's bowl record. Now I can't remember the last team we've beaten with out looking it up.

2010 Insight vs Misery ( Coker > Gabberts )

I'd settle for just showing up and looking ready to play.

This is another issue where recruiting shows up. When Iowa plays teams from the SEC and PAC12, their lack of speed really shows up. We've seen 4 bowl games in a row in which Iowa has been completely overmatched athletically and the only one of those 4 games that was respectable was LSU and that was largely because they were without their starting QB and their backups were awful. Their backups then are the same guys that the Purdue reject is starting over now.

I think that they will win a bowl game this season. Iowa plays well in bowl games against a variety of play styles. They beat pass heavy teams in the 2001 Alamo Bowl and in the 2010 Insight bowls. They would get a similar match up if they get the Holiday Bowl. They beat "athletic" southern teams in the 2004 and 2009 Outback bowls, the 2005 Capital One bowl, and the 2010 Orange bowl. They would go against a less talented team of that style if they get the Music City bowl.

Iowa's formula for bowl success begins with a fundamentally sound defense. They play there assignments, and play good team defense. With a month to prepare they can shut down even the most powerful offenses ala Georgia Tech. Iowa's offense is relentless pounds teams into submission. They will do something similar this time too and break off some big runs late similar to how they did it in the Orange Bowl.

Iowa hasn't played well in a bowl game for several years, against a variety of play styles.
