Why?

1. Why does Iowa consistently have 3 bigs on the court at the same time, yet rarely, if ever, use them offensively except to set picks 22 feet from the basket for the guards?

2. Why does Fran insist on subbing multiple guys at a time rather than working in a single sub to help keep consistency and rhythm?

3. Why does this coaching staff apparently not teach players to have their arms up or outstretched when in a zone defense?

4. Why do we not press full court when we consistently play 9-10 guys?

5. Why does the coaching staff apparently teach a roster of players with average to below average foot speed to continually try to jump passing lanes and consistently be too late resulting in the Iowa player being out of the play and the opponent having a numbers advantage going to the basket?

6. Why do we need to run multiple defenses when it's apparent to even the casual observer that we aren't even good at one defense, let alone multiple?

7. Why did Fran shut down Twitter for the entire team for the entire season when he's said at every single press conference since the season began that he's got a very professional and mature group? One instance is enough to shut it down for the season?

8. Why can White, Marble and Gessell consistently make mistakes on the offensive and defensive ends of the court, but not here about it from Fran, yet if Basabe, Clemmons, Uthoff, etc do the same thing, they get yanked....often for the remainder of the game?

9. Why can't Fran seem to have a conversation with an official without looking like he wants to tear the guy's head off and sh!t down his neck? Officials would be much more willing to listen if he'd approach them in a professional manner rather than acting like a WWE heel.

10. Why can seemingly every other team in college basketball have guards that know how to make a proper entry pass to the post, but we don't have a single guard on our roster who appears to understand how to do it?

Wow, some good insight. The amazing one to me... we are extremely effective with the press, with have the depth to do it for long periods, why the hell don't we??? I'm having real doubts about Francis.

So many good questions in there...especially the bold stuff.

The total refusal to full court press...it's mind boggling...If we really do have 10 guys that can play...put it on from buzzer to buzzer...NW would have been done...they have 10 guys total...

Illinois totally struggled with the press...but we took it off for last possession...I remember it being on for one possession vs. NW and the two guards let NW split the trap (which CANNOT happen). And we never saw it again, one mistake...and it's done.

As I would say to my young children when they asked "why" too many times...."because y is a crooked letter". Seemed to make them stop asking questions I didn't have an answer for.

And PS: Why am I still watching this expecting a different result?

Why do we use so much pick and roll action when the guards never, and I mean never ever, pass the ball to the screener?

1. Why does Iowa consistently have 3 bigs on the court at the same time, yet rarely, if ever, use them offensively except to set picks 22 feet from the basket for the guards? [our bigs are not great post players, and with poor perimeter shooting there is little spacing for them to operate]

2. Why does Fran insist on subbing multiple guys at a time rather than working in a single sub to help keep consistency and rhythm? [no idea]

3. Why does this coaching staff apparently not teach players to have their arms up or outstretched when in a zone defense? [no idea]

4. Why do we not press full court when we consistently play 9-10 guys? [see question 5; we lack footspeed to trap and press and Big 10 guards are to strong with the ball; see Crawford's step through of our well-executed trap last night]

5. Why does the coaching staff apparently teach a roster of players with average to below average foot speed to continually try to jump passing lanes and consistently be too late resulting in the Iowa player being out of the play and the opponent having a numbers advantage going to the basket? [we need to either execute this style of defense or change it]

6. Why do we need to run multiple defenses when it's apparent to even the casual observer that we aren't even good at one defense, let alone multiple? [multiple defenses still allow for better match ups and in-game customization; playing one bad defense all game isn't the answer either]

7. Why did Fran shut down Twitter for the entire team for the entire season when he's said at every single press conference since the season began that he's got a very professional and mature group? One instance is enough to shut it down for the season?

[Basabe has a limited skill set and can be a poor matchup if floor spacing is needed; Clemmons is a bad offensive basketball player with a 30% turnover rate]

9. Why can't Fran seem to have a conversation with an official without looking like he wants to tear the guy's head off and sh!t down his neck? Officials would be much more willing to listen if he'd approach them in a professional manner rather than acting like a WWE heel. [no idea; he needs to figure this out]

10. Why can seemingly every other team in college basketball have guards that know how to make a proper entry pass to the post, but we don't have a single guard on our roster who appears to understand how to do it? [our post players also are not very good at holding position and the lane is often condensed because we have poor perimeter shooting]

Why do we use so much pick and roll action when the guards never, and I mean never ever, pass the ball to the screener?

Jok/Clemmons did when they were on the floor at the same time.

I have harped on getting the big guys involved forever.

Something that I posted last night, is it because the last PG, inefficient as he was Cartwright, dropped it off to the big guys and could get inside the FT line without looking lost. Iowa has a very similar player on the bench right now, but MG is the PG and he has struggled with what he does best all season.

Since Jarryd Cole left, Basabe has been nowhere near the player he was, the reason...Basabe is now supposed to be Cole when he isn't capable. He is far better at cleaning things up and getting put backs.

So, who is the guy that should be the No. 1 option...I don't know, there are a lot of incompletes and it for sure doesn't need to be Olaseni as he can't even make a shot right now. Woodbury is the most skilled Iowa big guy, but White is playing the 3-spot and isn't capable; he is a better Center than SF.

If White never gets a shot outside of 10-ft. he will never be consistent and I still cannot believe he was a 3rd team all-conference player.

Iowa's bench has done nothing to change a game for months. Who is the spark off the bench, there isn't one?

Guys this team was flawed heading in and ball movement and shot selection were my two items that I was concerned with heading into the season. The scoring droughts are ridiculous and the worst thing about this team though, is how poor of an effort that is seen on the defensive end. Having depth should mean that each and every player can play hard and all out on every single possession on both ends; that isn't happening. When Iowa was playing well, all those things were happening, well the defense wasn't great, but it was far better than the last 7 games.

Why in the world did INXS choose the druggy, J.D. Fortune, over Marty Casey as their new lead singer to replace Michael Hutchence?? Casey had overwhelming public support (I'd think this would be crucial to a touring rock band), was much more offbeat and whimsically macho like Hutchence during performances, and his original, "Trees", that he sang during the finals, was pure genius in it's simplicity and similarity to early INXS styinlings.

The people spoke, the answer was there and then completely dismissed.

As perplexing a mystery as Fran's rotations, bench management and general strategy. Everyone could easily see what was working / could work but it was dismissed in favor of self-destruction.
