Why the difference in Roster Size between ISU and Iowa

Out of curiosity I wanted to know the number of jucos on the ISU roster. There are 12 that I counted, Iowa has five. In my pursuit I noticed that ISU roster lists 134 players and Iowa lists 114, a difference of 20 more at ISU. Does anyone know why ISU can have a roster that large?

For interest here is a breakout of members by class

I don't have a clue as to how these numbers are so skewed. Is there a difference in how conferences handle the number of players on a roster?

wow - if paw can keep them together - they have potential in the next 1-2-3 years with as many young guys they have on their team.

The table is just a little confusing.

The left column is the class groupings; ie freshman, sophomore, etc. ISU has more class groupings. The center column has a header for ISU. Below it are the number of players for that class. The right column has a header for Iowa. Below it are the number of players for the class in the left most column.

I assumed the same, but that adds up to 49 walkons. I looked up the Big Ten West rosters sizes, interesting as well.
  1. Nebraska - 134
  2. Minnesota - 119
  3. Wisconsin - 113
  4. Illinois - 115
  5. Purdue - 113
  6. Northwestern - 107
  7. Iowa -114
Nebraska way out of whack compared to the rest of the division.

Not surprisingly, the EASIEST school, academically, (Nebraska) has the highest FB roster total
& the most difficult, Northwestern has the lowest roster total.

Since the academics, at Nebraska our not unlike a Junior college, they throw it all at the
Wall and see what sticks

And yet all of them can keep only 85 players on full scholarship. So either the scholarships are being split between two or more players or all in excess of the 85 are walkons.

Haven't you ever talked to a Nebraska fan about the walk-on program? They act like its the biggest act of self sacrifice in human history for these kids to show up to practice and get pushed around and hit by the real players.

The roster doesn't show how big their hearts are. Because they have such big hearts and they play with so much heart.
