Why the debate about rushing the court?

Why is there so much debate about whether or not rushing the court was appropriate last night? Did you see Matt Gatens go off for 33 points last night? Did you see the smile on his face when he was surrounded by all the students celebrating the hard earned victory over a ranked opponent? That picture answers whether or not Iowa fans should have rushed the court.

Gatens has been through some of the leanest years in Iowa basketball history. For him to have a game like that last night and get a reaction like he did from the crowd makes it all worth it. Enjoy the win and stop whining about whether or not rushing the court was the right thing to do! It's about the players, not message board Iowa fans that are always looking for something to complain about.

The real debate should be about whether or not this Hawkeye team can win their final three regular season games and win one or two in the Big Ten Tournament to get themselves on the bubble.

Here's what I found gratifying about rushing the floor last night: a new generation of Iowa students is discovering the excitement of Hawkeye basketball again. Something those of us around during the Olsen/Raveling/Davis years knew but had slipped away during the Alford/Lick years.

Bully for them and hooray for Fran, his staff and the team. They're getting it done. The passion bodes well for the future.

BTW, Dev Marble just linked to a video shot from the floor last night post-game. Pretty cool to see the energy and enthusiasm.

Could not agree more Tweeter. I posted in another thread that the students that attended the game last night were between 7-11 years of age the last time Iowa won an NCAA tourney game.

I found it funny that a Cyclone fan was making fun of Iowa for rushing the court last night. How many cheesy "So Proud" locker room speeches have there been?

Because some people think they are just too cool to do so, and they sneer at anyone that does. I'm happy the students were able to get in free to watch a great game. There were probably many that had never gone to one yet, and by going to an exciting game like that, hopefully it triggered the desire to go to others even if they had to pay. It's also great that Matt is having a good year. A dedicated Iowa player and this year going well? He deserved that game and it was wonderful to watch his teammates and the fans be so exited for him.

I think every game from last night to the BT tournament has and will have a win or done feel to it. You could sense that there was an importance to winning that game and the fans picked up on it.

It was a big win in the sense that the hope is still alive, not in the sense that the Hawks just beat the best team in the nation.

The way I see it is that we all were just given a few more days to hope and dream.

Let's just enjoy it and not get on people for being excited, including the students that rushed the court.

If you don't wanna rush the court, don't. If you do, go ahead.
If you're on the team that got beat, cry about it all you want.

It's immature and childish. That's why. Only teams that don't expect to win rush the floor.

Edit: It's the prole thing to do

aren't we a team that doesn't expect to win right now tho? I'm not sure how many people "expected" us to win that game

because we just beat a top 25 team in a game in which we played well but its a message board and if we don't argue about something here wed have to do actual work so....

I don't understand the debate either. Rushing the court is always inappropriate.

What a kill joy party pooper.

As a person who was at the old fieldhouse with 10,000 other fans to greet Lute and the players and Gable and the wrestlers when the bball team made the final 4 I would say it is fine for the crowd to rush the floor last nite.

Many of those fans had probably never been to a big college game.

As long as no one got hurt what is the harm.

If the hawks make these wins more common place and with bigger win margins you wont see this very often.

What's worse the students rushing the court or the blue hairs leaving the game 4 minutes early with an eight to 10 point difference either way to beat traffic?
