Why Lick would leave...

Hypothetically, if Lick were soon able to turn the corner and get the Hawks back to the tourney for a couple of seasons, I think he would take the first plane out of IC, (or CR) and to a new job as a result of seeing how news media and fans blasted him and his walk-on son, and how the seats are 2/3 empty at CHA.

This is not meant to stir the pot. I know he brought a lot on himself. Personally, I think he's in over his head. Just a hypothetical thought.

I agree, Iowa is now the Northwestern of college basketball. And most have accepted this apparently (I haven't and won't) so any coaches that now come to Iowa view this job as stepping stone. It's very sad but guess that is what we have become.

The good thing about this is that the empty arena can be blamed on Lickliter. If we get a coach in here that can play a more exciting brand of basketball I'd go back to Carver.

I don't know about all of that. Ferentz didn't leave when he was getting blasted his first few years and his son was the target of all the public housing stuff. Good coaches have a knack of not taking this stuff personally.

Sure it's possible. But as was said, we are so far away from that happening it certainly doesn't even deserve a thread.

Another post making a jab at the fanbase.. Ok, I'll bite.

I can't condone the excessive Lick Jr. bashing, but when you're in the worst 3-year run in Hawkeye history, what exactly do you expect the media and fans to be saying? Seriously.

I wouldn't be able to explain why Lickliter (or any coach for that matter) would expect the media and fans to be giving him a pat on the a$$ and saying "You're doing a great job coach. Keep up the good work." when you're about to own the worst winning % in the history of Iowa hoops. Can you?

As far as Lick becoming a hot commodity and another program stealing him from us, I think we need to worry more about keeping players in the program and getting to a .500 record before we can even begin to talk about Lickliter leaving for another job.

I also can't imagine another school, or athletic director, looking at the empty seats in Carver at any point of his tenure and thinkin..."Man, I got to get me some of that".

OK, what about Gene Chizik? 1-10 record gets you to Auburn!?!?!?

Did ISU's attendance drop dramatically under Chizik's watch? You have a point with the record thing. But Chizik did have connections to Auburn.

So I guess perhaps Lick could get hired by Butler or his ol' high school team.
