Why in gods name kick fg. Our coach has no guts. It was our one chance. 4th and 5. Good god man

Kirk was playin to win. He was thinking 3, Defense stop followed by a game winning Hawkeye TD drive with the clock expiring.

That one killed me we hadn't done anything all day and finally had a shot to tie it up.

10 year contract extension.

Barta is in his basement as we speak writing up a new 15 year extension for when the ten years are up.

ROFLMAO, pounding fist on floor, laughing so hard my guts are hurting, rolling on floor again laughing, tears rolling down my face. WHEW, I feel better, nope, nope, on the floor rolling and laughing.....

This was embarrassing on so many levels. Only KF would do something so gutless when it also makes absolutely no statistical sense. You are down 17-6. That's 11 for KF and those that may think as simply as he does. You are on the 4 yard line. The chance of converting a 2 point conversion is around 48%. It's a lower chance to convert a 4th and goal from the 4 but it's not a lot lower than 48%. IF you do convert, you have a 48% of only needing a FG to tie assuming you get the onside kick (need to do in all scenarios). That FG can be from the 30. IF you score another TD, you win!

That doesn't even consider that scoring a TD is more deflating to WI and puts more pressure on them and gives you more energy going into the onside. Going for the TD also is what your kids want to do. It gives them the confidence that you believe in them. If you don't score that TD, you lose. You probably are not winning here no matter what. At least you are acting like you believe in your offense AND it's your BEST CHANCE to WIN!

Q. This will sound like second-guessing. It’s 14-6, you go for the field goal. You’re still going to need a touchdown. What was the thought process there?
COACH FERENTZ: You have to score twice. It gets down to that. Somehow, some way you’re going to have to score twice.

If there’s a little bit less, fourth-and-two, something like that, we probably would have gone for the touchdown.

I think he literally doesn't break it down any further than points. No odds or percentages or sees how a TD in that situation could be a spark to pull off the win....

---------This is a gutless program right now. How in the hell do you come off a season like last year and play like this?

Duh......extension.

There comes a point in a game where it becomes impossible to win. Some coaches seem to be more concerned about delaying that point as much as possible than they are about what actually gives them the better chance.

For instance, say going for it on 4th down gives you a 10% chance to win and kicking the field goal gives you a 5% chance. The obvious thing to do would be go for it. But if you don't get it, the game is for sure over right there. It's like coaches are willing to surrender the extra 5% chance just to keep hope a little longer. It's flawed logic I see all the time. Like punting the ball from your own 10 down two scores with 4 minutes left. I see it all the time for some reason.
