It seems to me that it should be called the Hawk-cy series. But due to the way that sounds, we can just call it the Hawkeye series. I mean come on. The Hawks have the all-time lead at 22-11. It seems to me that the Hawks should have thier name listed first.
The Cy-Hawk series does not just cover the football matchup. It is a series that scores each matchup of Iowa/Iowa State for all sports, men's and women's. I believe it was/is sponsored by Hy-Vee and the naming came from that sponsorship.
The Hy-vee thing is recent. The Cy-Hawk trophy has been around long before Hy-vee did their advertising gimmick. Even though nobody knew about the trophy until Iowa lost after 15 years. LOL
