These are not excuses, but reasons why Iowa lost the game and Arizona won. In some of these Iowa played it poorly, but Arizona was good enough to take advantage and were the better team.
1) Blocked Punt to start the game. We did a poor job of blocking but Arizona made a play.
2) Pick 6 by Wade. We just gave Arizona 7 points on that one. Not only did we just put the ball right in Wade's stomach, but we were driving and if McNutt would have made that catch we would have had a 1st and 10 inside the Red Zone. This one play hurt the most as Arizona didn't really do anything, we just gave it to them.
3) Kickoff return for a TD. We did a poor job of coverage and Arizona took advantage and took it to the house. Again, Arizona made a play.
4) We missed a wide open DJK that would have made it 21-14. Again, this mistake was all on Iowa. DJK was 10 yards behind the defense and should have scored easily.
5) Iowa should have went for the first down when they had like 4 and 6 from Arizona's 36 yard line in the first half.
6) After Iowa tied it up, Arizona moved the ball right down the field on our D and scored a TD. Foles played great and it was an impressive drive. I still don't know how that TD wasn't batted or picked. It looked like it went right through an Iowa player.
7) Stanzi eating the ball on three plays in a row to end the game. It was terrible blocking and a great job out of Arizona to bring pressure. Stanzi has to at least just hang somthing up and hope for the best. Instead he just lowered his head and took the sack. Have to give credit to Arizona though.
So after all of this, I have came to this conclusion. The two main plays in the game where Iowa just gave Arizona either points or took points off of Iowa's board was the Wade pick 6 and the missed throw to DJK. All of the other stuff, you have to give credit to Arizona.
Iowa also was the recipient of some mistakes from Arizona. Arizona muffed a punt to give us a short field and was the one play you could point to where Iowa didn't really create a turnover, but Arizona basically gave Iowa the ball. On the pick 6, Binns made a hell of a play and have to give Iowa credit for that.
