Why Gessell?

Going into last possession with game tied MG is 0-7 from the floor including (he passed up numerous open looks) and he is asked to take the last shot? I understand he tries hard and is a great student, but he has zero confidence in his shot and has proven time and again to be a poor choice in this kind of spot, yet he is still asked by his Coach to make it happen.

WHY Fran?

Now we we all get to celebrate his air ball (0-8) was caught and a bucket made before time expired after blowing a 5 point lead in the last minute.

Gessel takes the the heat for sucking, but it's his Coach that puts him in that position time and again.

JO and Jok both MIA late, again....

It's not all on Fran... the other players give the ball right back to Mike...

They are just accustomed to giving it to the PG... but the problem is our PG can't score.

So it doesn't work (unless he airballs a 15 footer right to the center... who pushed off with both hands.. for a game winning tip- then it works great).

Not a serious push - it's done all the time to keep the man from backing you out on the rebound. Woodbury had great position and the refs made the correct no call. Come back and play again when you know something about real basketball.

I highly doubt Fran draws it up that way in the huddle.

The problem is that nobody on this team has the cajones to demand the ball and make a shot in the final possession with the game on the line. If Jok or Uthoff had that quality in them, this would have been a 30 win team.

Gesell is taking these shots because he's the one with the ball as the clock winds down. Nobody else is making the effort to get open and demand the ball.

My thoughts exactly boat. But beyond blaming fran coaching, its possible more appropriate to be blaming his recruiting. Uthoff and jok are the best scorers, but they lack iniaitive in taking the ball when plays break down or solid defense happens. I honestly think woodbury might be the player that plays the most clutch in high pressure situations, and its weird to say

. Gesell doesnt mind being the scapegoat in taking poor shots, but he needs to play to his stengths and dish it away as something contested by jok is more likely to go down than his fade aways. Or if hes able to get to the rim he needs to fake the shot blockers. Maybe he'll learn his lesson finally next round.

.

What huddle? He never calls timeout. Took two home again. It's like he freezes up at the end of the game and so does the team. Gesell needs to just call the timeout himself because he knows he has no chance to score and it shows.

Lots of coaches don't use timeouts in that situation because it allows the defense to call a play and get set.

And with as bad as they've been in crunch time, calling a timeout also forces us to inbound the ball an extra time and just gives us one more thing that can go wrong.

But if anyone is dribbling the ball at the top waiting for the clock to run down for the final shot, I'd much rather it be Uthoff. Gesell has proven he can't win a game late.

Yeah k bud...

They aren't going to call anything in that situation and they didn't...

But it was a foul even on Jupiter.

Thanks, however for your amazingly perceptive and educational (and poignantly objective) basketball teaching moment.

You are welcome. I don't know about basketball on Jupiter, but it wasn't a foul and it wasn't called a foul. End of argument.

If you do something 37 times and fail, don't expect different on the 38th time. Gesell will never be the end of game answer, and it is on Fran to see it.

0-7 from field and Coach has MG with ball again and again today in crunch time.

Shocking stat: MG hasn't made more than 1 three point shot in a game since a game in December vs. Drake he made two. That's the only game all season he has made more than one three.
That just might allow defenses to sag in the lane when he has the ball and play help D.

AC much better scorer, add Uhl in place of MG and there is more scoring options for AC if he drove and dished as he did a few times again today.
