Why Fred Hoiberg left Iowa State

Sleeping on the floor of a hotel ballroom when the tournament provided money for rooms. Pathetic human being.

Its going to be interesting to hear Pollard's statement on all of this. There's no way this story goes away quietly.

Quick update...

Hines is standing by his story. Fred and Pollard are both claiming it's not true. Hines said he has 9 sources who have all verified it to be true. He gave Pollard and the Athletic Department two opportunities to respond to his story before it was published. They declined. He left Fred a voicemail trying to get his opinion and he never responded.

Interesting scenario. Personally, I feel like the story is accurate. Hines sounds credible. I listened to his interview on the radio and he sounded like a guy with integrity. I think Fred has moved on and he didn't want to feel like he was responsible for Pollard getting fired so he decided to plead ignorance on it just to prevent that from happening. He knew what that would do to ISU and decided to stay out of it.

Pollard is a turd. Has been since he got there.

FH was going to the NBA no matter what, but JP definitely made it an easy call for him.

Of course neither Pollard or Freddy will confirm something like that. Since the only sources for his research are anonymous that's how they hope it'll just go away. Freddy doesn't want to burn a bridge especially there. And Pollard can't talk bad about the 'Mayor" If any of those sources were willing to put their name to it then it becomes a different story as far as a no comment not cutting it. I would think the whole deal at the hotel should be easily proven though as to whether that happened or not. That's not the question it's if there was a rift between Freddy and Pollard that was due in part to that among who knows what all else. You want a recruiting pitch against those clowns here you go... You can say a lot of things about Barta but you can't say he's done anything half *** as far as how the facilities and kids are treated. I think they are first class in everything they do for them and it's as simple as that. It'd be interesting to know what the line in the sand for Freddy was as to how much money was it going to take to get him to leave like he did.. The money ended up not being close obviously but this whole deal tickles me. ISU thought they had their next Johnny Orr but instead their ego maniac of an AD ran him off. Now if even if Freddy denies that Pollard sure didn't do much to try and keep him....

I dont get the PoV that the writer made the whole thing up or got misled. He's a writer for the Ames newspaper. This article is basically career suicide for him as far as Iowa State athletics go. Obviously before he ran this article he verified/cross referenced his sources and his editor did the same thing. So to say he made the whole thing up is pretty far fetched.

As far as Fred speaking out...why would Fred confirm anything in the article at this point? What point would there be for him to do that? Fred just left a place he's loved and signed a $25,000,000 deal with the Bulls and is now in the NBA. Why the hell would he suddenly come back and say "yeah I hated our AD, he treated us like crap and was super cheap". Nobody would ever do that.

Maybe the writer got misled by multiple sources...thats certainly possible...but to say that "OMG FRED DEBUNKED IT" or "THE WRITER MADE THE WHOLE THING UP" is completely asinine by cyclone fans.

edit: Also, why did Pollard deny multiple requests for comment in relation to this article, but then suddenly go on a twitter/news cycle splurge after it was published?

Remember, usually the most obvious answer is the correct one.

I wish they would have gotten someone like Johnny Orr. The guy was a legend at ISU for winning 18 more games than he lost during his long run there.

The story is on MSN so its getting some national attention. Hopefully, it will do wonders for Iowa State recruiting.

A lobbyist friend called me yesterday after he read the article in the Ames Tribune. He told me that ISU President, Steven Leath, is a really good guy. Then he added that Leath detests Jamie Pollard. RUT-RO!

Quick update..Pollard is a turd. Has been since he got there.

And his primary job is polishing a turd, perfect fit.

Pollard is beginning to look like a guy who's been running up his credit cards to stay ahead of things.. but is about to hit his limit.

i've got a sneaky suspicion that this is going to get good before long.......

what other AD pimps himself like Folly? Who? An AD is generally a behind the scenes guy - but Folly has made sure to put himself in the forefront.

Cy may "cheep" while Jamie Pollard is just cheap. There is a reason that Dan McCarney referred to Jamie Pollard as "The little bookkeeper"!

The Des Moines media on KXNO radio and WHO TV are basically defending Pollard and Hoiberg. Of course they are. Several of them are either closet or admitted ISU fans. Also, they don't want their access to ISU athletics to be limited. I don't think the author of this article had great access to Hoiberg or Pollard before, and now, that will be further limited. KXNO media complained that the author could have access to Hoiberg any time, after all, he was at the home ISU games this fall. Yeah right, Hoiberg is going to talk to just any reporter. It was obvious that Hoiberg and Pollard colluded on their responses. They have to pretend to like each other and one of the reasons they responded so quickly is that there is likely a lot of truth in the article and it struck a nerve with them.

Which totally explains the angle that Pollard was jealous of The Mayor. Pollard likes being the "god". When Hoiberg became the center of attention Polly got jelly. He probably let that jealousy cloud his judgement at times leading him to make some petty decisions.

The funniest part in all of this to me is simply more and more Cyclone Delusion. That fan base never ceases to amaze me. There isn't a fan base out of there who continually gobbles up plates full of crap and then comes back for seconds the way Cyclones do.

Gobble Gobble Gobble, More please, Gobble Gobble Gobble

Anything that stirs the pot with them is fine by me. The truth is in the middle somewhere I'm sure. As far as if the anonymous sources have axes to grind goes I'm sure they do. That's how these things work. Doesn't make any thing more or less true. And that's why they were anonymous they have a job to keep. Basically ISU fans will believe what they want Iowa fans will think what we want to be true and nationally nooobody will care especially Bulls fans or writers.

If Pollard had them sleeping on the floor during a tourney.........that would be pathetic. I'm not a fan of Pollard, obviously but that would be bush league no matter where it was. Kirkwood wouldn't do that to their players.

Pollard bought into the greatest team ever and decided they could overcome any obstacle with the exception of UAB.

Cyfans are now touting the article was made up by Travis Hines and he should be fired. Long live the delusion.
