The BTT started near the end of the TD era, 1998 I believe was the first one which was his 2nd to last year. From that point until the present, Iowa has been a bad basketball program overall. One Sweet 16 appearance since then and one NCAA win outside of that.
Their BTT tournament performance reflects their overall performance. Inconsistent at best, mind blowing pathetic at worst.
It's all about the NCAAs. The BTT is irrelevant. There have been 18 Big 10 tournaments (counting this year). Iowa has lost their first game 11 times. They have only made it to Saturday 4 times...the last being in 2006.
This is horrendous. Why is Iowa such a poor tournament team? It is maddening!

It's all about winning the BTT & going to the Final Four. Winning first round games is meaningless if you don't go any farther. What do you want? A coach who never loses a first round game or a coach whose teams gets upset in the first round quite frequently. However, the second coach leads several teams to the Final Four & does win it all.
That is the difference between Tom Davis' career & Lute's!

On big stages, Iowa has had no Prime Time Players for years and years now.
