Why didn't D Wade, Bosh and Lebron go to Cleveland?

Bosh could have but he refused to go. Toronto was prepared to do a sign and trade, but he nixed it.

The 3 of them may have had the same contract situation, but the Cavs probably didn't have the same salary cap situation as the Heat...not to mention, no state income tax (probably important to Bosh after all of those seasons in Canada) and winters in Miami vs winters in Cleveland...Orange Bowl week not withstanding...

Have you ever been to Cleveland? Thats why

There is no income tax in the state of Florida. End of story! Oh, and then there is South Beach vs. the Flats.

Other than Columbus I would agree for the most part, worst weather ever and dying economies....but it's my horrible state.....lol

I understand the state income tax. Ohio has a 5.925% tax rate on > than $200,000 income so that is certainly a consideration but you have to establish residency in the state. Are these guys going to establish residency in FL? The NBA schedule is Oct - April (7 months). What is the FL state requirement for establishing residency?

I guess the question that I was trying to get to was this: Lebron wants everyone to think that he loves Ohio and yet the scenario was possible for those three to play in Cleveland. Nobody seems to be talking about this subject....they just want to talk about how lebron wants to win a championship. He could have had the same team in Cleveland.

As I understand it from an associate who lives there, LeBron is building a home (estate) in Bath, OH. It will be his primary residence. I think until the house is built, his primary remains in Akron.
Yes, I know a few ohioans. As much as I hate to admit it, they're decent guys. But it's still a craphole of a state.

Actually the state residency thing doesn't really come into play. Professional athletes (basketball, football, baseball, etc..) have to pay state income taxes in the states they play games because that is when they earned their paycheck, sitting at a home in July in Ohio wouldn't matter because LeBron wouldn't be "working". So playing 43 in Florida (41 in Miami and 2 in Orlando) as compared to playing 41 in Ohio will be a lot more money for these guys.

I was thinking about this and decided if I was ranking NBA cities based on where I would least like to play by location I would rank them like this 1 being the least desireable
1. Detroit
2. Toronto
3. Cleveland
4.Milwaukee
5. Oklahoma City
