Why are we not signing bigger classes?

The attrition problem we have is well documented. Why are we not signing bigger classses though to make up for this? Instead these spots are being filled by walk-ons.

Well if they could find guys they liked to get bigger classes I am sure they would but they aren't going to take somebody just to take them and fill up spots.

and i'm sure they are following the limits of what they can sign each year.

The 2007 recruiting class I believe has really been the only real 'bust' class. Yes, attrition at dline and rb the last few years.

But why sign someone when you might not think they have the goods to be on the two deep, anywhere on the two deep eventually.

Also, I'm not sure if we are getting close or not, but the B1G has limits on over-signing, regardless of attrition.

B1G teams can sign 28 (3 over) if they can prove that they need to fill the spots but I believe still only 25 can make it on to campus in the fall.

Contrary to popular belief, the Big Ten does not have a limit on the number of scholarships that can be given in a year.

Big Ten schools are allowed three over the the 85-man limit, not the annual 25-man limit. If, for example, Michigan ends a season with fifteen open scholarships spots, then Michigan may sign up to eighteen players. No more. Likewise, if Indiana has thirty open spots, the Hoosiers may sign up to thirty-three players.

Further, if a program chooses to oversign, it must document to the Big Ten office exactly how it came under the 85-scholarship limit. That way, coaches are less likely not to renew scholarships.

Because the Big Ten rules are more stringent, the NCAA annual 25-man limit does not apply. The conference's strict adherence to the 85-man limit is the reason that Ohio State has a recruiting class of fourteen or fifteen players many years. When you think of it, 85-scholarships over five years is only seventeen a year. In contrast, an SEC program can sign 125 players over the same five years.

i think the 25 per year with a limit of 2-3 over that limit, there is not a limit of 85 + 3 if they are 29 players short at the end of the season the most they can sign is either 27 or 28 not 30 plus, the BT rules are very strict on signings

looking back at past classes
2007 22 signees
2008 25
2009 20
2010 22
2011 25
2012 to be determined
i think they have recruited enough, that gives them 112 over 5 years, not sure what else they can do other than hope players stay healthy and stick around

2007 a bust year? Bulaga, Binns, Sash, Sandeman, Zusevics, Nelson, Ballard, McNutt, Gettis, Bernstein, Danials, Danial, Davis, Riesner. Yeah, your right, it was a bust.

basically Iowa could over sign this year as both of the JUCO' have enrolled and will not count against this years total, they could still sign 7-9 more, as 2 of the current 18 are juco's. making the current total at 16, but from what i heard they have given Staggs one of the remaining schollies. which is a good idea to reward Jr walk-ons with a scholly their SR year for all the time and hard work they put in, it give other players the motivation to work harder
