Why are people trying to give the next coach

a life time contract?

We need someone in here immediately that can stop the bleeding and get the program headed in the right direction. A George Raveling kind of guy so to speak. I don't think that we need to be offering anyone a long-term deal unless they have truly proven that they know what they are doing aka Bruce Pearl.

Who cares if they are here for 3-5 years and achieve a high level of success and move on? That means that we are back in the NCAA tournament, once again relevant in the basketball world, our facilities are now up to par, revenue is flowing in instead of out and we can go out and find the next Iowa coach.

Remember when this all started? We hired Olson. He left and we had Raveling who recruited the best athletes that Iowa has ever seen. He left and Iowa was very relevant and we brought in Mr. Davis - a proven coach at Stanford and continued the tradition. We made a huge mistake in making him a lame duck and then we went flavor of the month TWICE when Iowa was no longer relevant and see where that got us?

We need a recruiter above all else right now.

Sorry, but I agree with the OP. Iowa bb needs a jolt of energy and electricity...even if the new guy is unlikely to stick around after a turnaround.
Lets get back to relevant, then worry about long term stability.

you haven't been following this guy today obviously, said about 50 different things...still hasn't given any names, just basically giving history lessons.

Names, you want names!

I've been pushing Billy Gillispie as my #1 and Bruce Pearl as my #2. I've also stated in a few threads that if neither of those two hires are made then I firmly believe that firing Lick was a bad decision.

Gillispie is going to bring big time recruiting but I will admit that he will come with baggage. If BJ Armstrong is interested in being an Asst. then that would be a solid win-win.

If Pearl was to come then I'm all for giving him a longer term contract but do you really think this is his dream job? He will come for the right amount of $ and his ego. I have to believe that he wants to absolutely humiliate Illinois and the Big10 in general stemming from the scandal back in '88 or '89.

GREAT! With Gillispie as coach then perhaps Tucker will come back. Are you out of your mind????

You are talking about a guy that has been arrested for DUI three times. He put the lives of himself and anybody on the road in danger but you want him leading our basketball team just because he can recruit?

3 DUI arrests! Iowa City and Gillespie is not a good match!! Several other great recruiters out there that are not alcoholics. ie: J.Pastner, S.Forbes, T.Barbee.

Well when history offers a lesson for us to bear in mind, it's pretty foolish to ignore it. I'd be happy with somebody who can recruit out of their minds for a few years before leaving. The talent alone would win quite a few more games, and make the job much more attractive to a legit coach, thereby putting us right back on track.

Also, I've read somewhere that Gillespie was on the wagon? Obviously he's had some issues in the past, but if he's worked them out, then I see no reason why not to bring him in and at least consider him.

Actually, this thought just struck me: bring in someone who recruits (Raveling-type guy), by which time Keno will have proven one way or the other regarding his ability. Would that not be ironic if Keno were hired here in 3-4 years, inheriting loads of talent the way his dad did from Raveling?
