Why 2nd place Iowa got screwed out of game in so many ways?

#1. Maryland was the clear 3rd place team in the East.
By pecking order and in the pecking order OSU gets jNW, Indiana should play Iowa but OK give them their in-state East-West battle with rival Purdue (at least is was supposed to be teams from different divisions)

That leaves Maryland as the pick to play Iowa. But NO the Big wants to make up the Maryland-MSU game WOW when the spirit of the season rules were to not make up games. Another part of the screw job.

#2 Not having Maryland play Iowa is bad enough but Rutgers finished higher in the East standings than Michigan.

So OK give Maryland and MSU their makeup game but then Rutgers who just came off that big win could travel to IOWA.

#3 Mich and Nebraska didnt play each other this year so let the poor fallen blue bloods battle it out .

The hawk players got screwed in so many ways, first IU, then Maryland, then Rutgers passed over for Mich.
The hawk fans got screwed over, the TV audience got screwed over, general fans who might want to peek in on an Iowa game got screwed.

Does this whole weekend schedule by the league make sense?

I think Iowa got a break. Our kids need a bye week and a rest. Perhaps they get to see their families. Ending with the Wisconsin beat down was the perfect conclusion to the season. A spectacular end on Senior Day!

Beating a very bad Maryland team would not have changed our bowl seeding. A win over a putrid Michigan team would not have changed anything either. Yes, beating Indiana might have changed our bowl seeding, but they have COVID so that possibility is moot.

I think it worked out well for Iowa. Rest and heal up, and get ready for a bowl game against the SEC in January in warm Florida.

My two cents... (1) Freaking hilarious thinking that Maryland was the 3rd best team in the east this year. Seriously, let that sink in and you can't help but laugh. (2) in regards to your question about whether the this whole weekend scheduled by the league makes sense, my rebuttal would be has anything done by the league this season made sense. Let the shit show continue.

I bet if you asked the players they would have welcomed another game in Kinnick.

I agree with you that the players may have voted overwhelmingly to play this Saturday or even a few days later if school and finals could have been made up.

As crazy as this year and season have been I'm just glad our players weren't exposed to some viral cesspool with Michigan or Indiana. They were lucky to be able to play all games scheduled. Whatever bowl game we're gonna get is just a bonus, unless of course it's the Pinstripe. Good god, what a weird-ass place to have a game, especially in the dead of winter.

The way things went this year any football they were able to play was gravy.

That's the reason its not counting against the eligibility clock.

Our local high school finally got their basketball season started this past Tuesday. Only four family members are allowed per player. The gym is cleared after the JV game and parents of JV players aren't allowed to watch varsity and vice versa unless they have one playing each. Players are required to wear masks while playing!

Officiating is the big concern. Many have opted out. There's talk of going back to two person crews, or doing JV/Varsity doubleheader. Due to rescheduled games my sophomore already has five games in eight days between now and Christmas. And bad weather hasn't even been an issue yet.

I still contend playing this season was stupid so the fact we played 8 games with no positive tests tells me it’s time to cash out. I’m glad we’re not playing some consolation game this weekend.

Everything could have worked out if this was big ten matches this week

1. MD-Mich
2. Indy-Purdue
3. Iowa-Rutgers
4. Neb-MSU
5. ILL-PSU
6. Wiscy-Minny
7. OSU-NW

Oh well
