Who's our Back-Up QB?

Being that Derby is not on the Iowa roster in NCAA 2012, It got me thinking about who our back-up will be this year? Hopefully no more than mop up duty, but if and when Vandy does go down- who does kirk turn to?

Another cool thing about the NCAA game is that it ranks the prestige of coaches and Kirk is top 9 in the country, and both Parker and O'Keefe seem to be ranked in the top 25 in the country. It'll be interesting to see how this element plays out in this years edition. Is it hard to "hire" or "extend" a contract. Can you negotiate an extension early- or wait for it to expire? Do coaches just retire on their on will (ie parker?). Should be fun.

I think the obvious answer is Wienke, due in large part to a similar style as JV, but I've heard rumors that the coaching staff has a couple of different packages put in place for Derby. Beyond that, it's anyone's guess. If we get into an injury situation with our QB's that we've had with RB's in the past, it could be a long season.

Here's just a thought, but if for some crazy reason we can actually get a comfortable lead in the second half that we could actually go to the second string we could actually get some backups with experience. That said when we do go to our second string we tend to just throw the back up QB out there and let him display his ability to game manage by doing nothing more than handing the ball off. We need to find a way to get the back up game experience.

This a tough one. They have Weinke listed as the 2nd stringer on the depth chart (if I'm wrong here please correct me), BUT do they really want Derby to be sitting on the bench or are they going to give him a chance (should it arise) to see what he can do? It's not like they really need to worry about ******* Weinke off and trying to keep him in the program. He's a junior now and a transfer wouldn't hurt us too much, but then again a transfer for him would be pretty much pointless at this point and we all know how loyal this staff is to kids that stick with the program that long. We shall see. Is it 9/3 yet!?!?
