My low-value opinion is that this stuff and worse (not sure what this situation is about obviously) has been going on in every conference since the beginning of sports.I think it's another log on the fire that the conference that claims to be high and mighty is having a tough offseason. It's going to be a narrative this season.
Yup that's pretty dead on. Bigger deals are made of it now and less stuff is over looked. That said as often as kids are getting caught who's to say what percentage of stuff is still going on that's not?My low-value opinion is that this stuff and worse (not sure what this situation is about obviously) has been going on in every conference since the beginning of sports.
Only now kids are getting caught more often and/or being disciplined more. It’s in the spotlight now because coaches and administrators fear being shredded to death by journalists on twitter trying to make their big break by uncovering a scandal. So...to preempt their own scrutinization and save their own asses, people get thrown under busses with vigor. Some deserve it, some maybe not.
In either case, the behavior is nothing new. The twitter pitch forkers are just more numerous and louder than before.
Do you think there will come a day where the NCAA is the body handing out punishment instead of schools? One would almost have to think it's coming and I'd bet everything would get stricter. The narrative doesn’t always fit reality.
Whether or not it’s going on everywhere, the Big Ten is in a cycle of poop right now. That’s the narrative. And it will he talked about.
It's still bs. Somebody wants to say anything, I would counter with well at least we are open about it and deal with it instead of sweeping it under the rug.The narrative doesn’t always fit reality.

Never. The NCAA answers to the schools, not the other way around. The money in sports is driven by 40 or so football programs and the basketball tournament.Do you think there will come a day where the NCAA is the body handing out punishment instead of schools?
They already dish out punishment for the non-behavioral stuff. This wouldn’t be a lot different. If the Urban Meyer and Rick Pitino stuff keeps happening, which it will, outside forces might not let the NCAA continue to allow schools to self-police athletes and coaches. Separate issue, but we already have Condoleeza Rice trying to force the NCAA’s hand and it’s working.Never. The NCAA answers to the schools, not the other way around. I get that an owi is serious. But let's not even begin to use it in the same sentence as wife beating, rape, crimes against children and violent crimes in general.Do you think there will come a day where the NCAA is the body handing out punishment instead of schools? Like, any type of assault is 1 year, OWI is a half year, any sexual crime is expulsion from sports, etc?
Or would that drive more cover-ups?
At the end of the day, the schools hold the upper hand. If the P5 decides to take their ball and start their own sanctioning body, nothing is stopping them. They already dish out punishment for the non-behavioral stuff. This wouldn’t be a lot different. Not only that, but there is different severity. Like when that kid from OU clocked that woman, it objectively looked like she laid hands on him first and the guy just reacted, yet he's now forever branded a monster because a bunch of white knight betas want to "have a discussion about gender related violence" and march around wearing pink hats. The last thing we need is some further removed bureaucracy doling out punishments based on some mandatory minimum chart.I get that an owi is serious. But let's not even begin to use it in the same sentence as wife beating, rape, crimes against children and violent crimes in general.
The moral majority that enacts the laws are anything but moral. Not only that, but there is different severity. Whoa whoa whoa, manI get that an owi is serious. But let's not even begin to use it in the same sentence as wife beating, rape, crimes against children and violent crimes in general.
That's part of the problem.
Devalued perspective on what type of person does those types of crimes and the billions of people who have driven after a little to much.
That's stupid and the main and rightful complaint about how a little weed can get you the same sentence as a rapist. Wtf??
I figured that, just being clear.Whoa whoa whoa, man
I wasn't comparing it to those. I was just picking examples out of thin air.
