Who stays in Brazil longer?

The U.S. Men's national team or the U.S. Soccer referee Mark Geiger?

The U.S. men play Belgium on Tuesday.

Geiger and his North American assistant referees just got their third match assignment, the France - Nigeria game on Monday. It is a huge honor for them and more broadly a country that "just doesn't get" the beautiful game.

There are interesting considerations behind the scenes. But who do you think has a longer run in the World Cup?

US will beat Belgium and then get curb stomped by Messi. How that applies to referee assignments, I don't know and don't especially care.

It would be cool to see the US men beat Belgium. The US seems to be a very good passing team but they have fallen asleep on defense a couple of times

Sorry to see the Yanks stumble today. If not for Tim Howard (World Cup record 16 saves), it could have been a rout.

Silver lining, if there is one: the American referee's chances of getting the WC final improved substantially, since he would have no conflict of interests with the US Men's National Team remaining in the tournament.

Well, as it turns out, the US referee did (no surprise), making history as the first American assigned to referee a knockout game in the World Cup and being involved with five WC matches total. Great story on his experience. Good read for all soccer fans and getting an understanding of the difference in officiating matches in the World Cup versus the MLS (which I often find abhorrent).

Congrats to Mark Geiger !
