Who is on your Mount Rushmore of Iowa sports?

My Mt. Rushmore is Kinnick, obviously, Feller, Gable, and Cap Anson. Anson rarely gets mentioned in this discussion, but he was one of the greatest early baseball players, even though he was a pretty rotten guy.

Kinnick, Feller and Gable are pretty much guarantees. I think Murph n Andy had these three, plus Kurt Warner. I think the fourth is up for debate...and then it depends on how you are defining it.

Interesting about Cap Anson. His father founded Marshall prior to the Civil War. It did not become Marsalltown until 1862. First player with 3,000 hits. Also, briefly attended Iowa.

Hayden Fry isn't from Iowa. I think for Mt. Rushmore status you need to be born here.

Just my opinion.

If we are talking U of I: Fry, Gable, Kinnick, Jim Z
state of Iowa: Feller, Anson, Gable, Kinnick

Would a doctored copy of a certificate of live birth from a hospital that didn't exist at the time be good enough documentation?

I agree with kinnick, gable, and feller . If you add Hayden you probably could justify Kirk as well. Kurt Warner or zobel.:)

Kinnick, Gable and Feller are the no-brainers. I think Cap Anson has to be the 4th. His on-field success is too good to ignore.

How about Jay Berwanger? A Dubuque boy that won the first Heisman Trophy. In my opinion winning the Heisman puts him ahead of Ferentz & Fry, but not ahead of Kurt Warner.

Nobody has mentioned Bucky O'Connor. An Iowa high school basketball legend at Newton, played at Drake, & coached Iowa to consecutive Big Ten titles & Final Four appearances.

Feller: MLB
Warner: NFL
Kinnick: CFB

Those are stalwarts, all-timers in major American sports.

The 4th is up for grabs. Gable? Perhaps, except for the fact that hardly anybody gives a rip about wrestling. Shaun Johnson? Same problem.
