White's Stat Line vs UNC

Aaron didn't have a single made FG but the team got the road win. It's encouraging to see that he doesn't need to take over offensively and Iowa can still beat a quality opponent.

It was GREAT others - especially guards - picked up the slack for Whitey and Uthoff but not anything I'd want to count on for the rest of the season. Can we have both, for a change????

Don't you think Roy decided White was not going to beat them. He played pretty well all around game. I loved our Defense. If we could get 4-6 3s out of a combination of JU,JO& PJ everygame we could be pretty tough to beat

Continued good defense is going to be key for this team IMO, as well as doing a decent job on the glass. The rebounding we saw in the first half and early in the second half won't cut it in league play - but what we saw down the stretch I thought was much better.

Good guard play... finally got it from the starters.

Got 24 points out of Mikey and Clemmons. Woody added another 11. These guys played terrific.
I don't expect to get this from them night in and night out.

With that said... we still only got 7 points off the bench (all from Gabe), White didn't hit a FG and Uthoff shot 15%. We know White and Uthoff will have better games.

Now if Jok, Ogelsby and Dickerson can find a way to contribute... we may have something.

Agreed, and with 1Hawkeye1's point about FT's "21-24"

I was skeptical about Iowa being #1 in the Big Ten in defense going into the game, but it appears to be legit. The shots will start falling, if the defense and effort continue at this pace, Iowa will be a solid team.

Agreed. If we can hold quality teams to less than 30% FG, we are going to win most games... Even when our own FG% was just over 30%.

But they did. Jok, for the first time, didn't look completely lost on the defensive end. Ogs was OK on defense, as he always is. Dickerson has discovered he can get by D1 players and just needs to look to pass off more when he does get by his man. Yeah, they all missed shots; but they took decent shots that just didn't fall - most of the players for both teams on the floor took decent shots that just didn't fall.

White was average in a handful of key games last season too. It's great they found a way to win (or an opponent that shoots worse). Don't count on that again when White disappears.

The blueprint has been out on how to defend White for some time now. Until he proves he can consistently take what they give him, teams will continue to sag off of him and not bite on the pump fake. That's a relatively easy way to limit him to FT's, which is what UNC did last night.

Pretty easy scouting report and execution on iowa's best player tm. he has to shoot and do so effectively to become a great player. He is not there...yet.

Yeah, this. White isn't really capable of taking over games if defended properly. He's very limited in the half-court because he can't shoot. He's just an all-american garbage man (which is still a very good player mind you).

I think you nailed it. White is a great all around player. But he's not a prime time player. I said it last year, he has got to be able to drill a 3 point shot when they give it him, or , as you have it here, they gonna sag off on him and render him ineffective at putting the ball in the basket.

Ok... I guess it that's your idea of contributing. A total of 25 minutes and 0 points. 2 rebounds. The highlight being 5 assists.

Jok and Ogelsby aren't on the team as Defensive stoppers. I'm glad they are getting better, but make no mistake about it, we need them to hit shots if this team wants to dance.

Our D will be good but we won't win many games against good opponents shooting 15% from 3 and those are 2 guys that we need to start hitting.

Notice how many times Aaron hit the floor. They were determined to stop him even if it meant slamming him on the floor. Good teams overcome the deficit when one of their dependable stars is off. His teammates take over and cover the deficit.....

The Hawks are becoming a good team.....

Now, if we can only stop Whitey from trying to be a guard....ala out front and had the ball stripped from him....Good gravy......Didn't matter as the game turned out for a "W" for the good guys....:)

10 points frm the free throw line while putting the other team in foul trouble during a relatively low scoring game is pretty good. He will continue to be a good player this year and make major contributions to Iowas victories.
