Don't tell me how unlikely it is for Nebraska to beat Wisconsin. I'm well aware of that. :)

As much joy as it would bring for me to see Nebraska start 0-5, I think I'd rather see Wisconsin lose.

That's not really a choice, since Nebraska being 0-5 is kind of a lock. Wisconsin has a tough road slate...an injury or two could set that team back...and winning on the road in the B10 is no given. I honestly think Wisconsin loses at least one more...and two could happen...(Michigan and Penn State).

that's a really good question. it's a coin flip for me.

if Wisconsin loses then Iowa has a legit shot for the west division. the flip side is that everyone, including some Iowa "fans", will say Iowa backed into it and because we didn't beat Wisky that it's not legit. And all the blubber about how Iowa could get boat-raced in the Big10 championship.

if Nebraska loses ... then ... joy. no downside. a win can give them confidence. i want thisseason to be an anchor around Nebraska's neck.

since i have to choose, then .... a wisconsin loss could help Iowa.

No brainer. Wisconsin loss. Couldn't care less what happens to Nebraska as long as they're behind us!

If we end up with fewer conferences losses than Wisconsin and win the west, those Iowa "fans" can shove it. We would be outright champs, nothing backed into.

By that logic, we should vacate our outright Big Ten title from 1985 because we didn't beat Ohio State head to head. OSU lost to Illinois and Wisconsin that year (when Illinois had a pulse).

That said, I have a hard time seeing us run the table from here. Another loss, and we have Penn State and Purdue on the road, and Wisconsin would have to lose three times. And other schools could be in the mix by that point as well.

If Nubby gets destroyed by the blahdgers today, how many more players quit on them?

Maybe this is all part of Frost's plan; lose them all in year one to weed out the quitters. Then come back and run the table in year 2 so that everyone talks about the miraculous turnaround you've made and how great of a coach you are.

The Cornhusker Calvary is passing through my hometown in Southwest Wisconsin as we speak.

I've been told it looks like a funeral procession.

I chose Nebraska lose. I don't want to "back into" a BIG West division title. I'm enjoying the Husker fall from arrogant grace.

I don't think it would be backing in. If we lose our last regular season game and two other teams lose like what happened in 1990, that would be backing in. Either way it's not going to happen. We had everything set up for a win over Wisconsin, caught them not at their best, played decent ourselves, and still found a way to lose. All that said, I would have no problem with several more Nebraska losses. One of the worst fan bases in the Midwest, documented by my sister, who lives in Omaha.

That depends. If we finish with 1 conference loss and Connie finishes with 2 conference losses, while they play a much more difficult schedule...I'd 100% consider that "backing in". But I don't really care one way or the other. Even if we back in, I'll enjoy the fact that we will have to win the rest of our games to do it. It just won't mean as much to me as it would if we had done it beating Connie.

Your words, not mine. We had a respectful exchange, which is what happens when grown adults talk it over. There are fans, and there are "fans". I think both of us fall in the former category.
you're under the impression that we're disagreeing.

we're not.

Beating Connie certainly would have meant a lot to me, starting with shutting up my wife.:) That's said, most badger fans I talked to predicted a loss before hand and felt fourtunate afterward that they escaped with the win.

I thought you were lumping another poster into the category of "fans" because he brought up the point of backing in. The gist of my exchange with lightning is there are different ways of backing in. What we can all agree on is
  • All of this would have been solved by simply beating those bastards like we should have
  • We can't do much about it now except win as many as possible
Where I differ is while beating Wisconsin would be awesome, I wouldnt enjoy a West title any less if we won it without beating them, but that's just my opinion. It's also my opinion that it ain't happenin'.

I'm to the point with KF/Gutless Gary that I don't care one way or the other. I'll enjoy certain aspects of the games and I'll enjoy watching players develop and improve. I'll give credit and criticism where I think it's due. My opinions will not always be popular or shared. I'm ok with that.

I have no problem backing in as we played Wisky great until the last few minutes and 2 turnovers.

The hawks will have to play great to even back in.

But today is the day, cant lose this game and expect to have a great season.

I am sure the players and coaches know how important all these games are but a nice winning streak even if the lose at PSU would mean the hawks have a chance at 10-2 with a young team.

Defense needs to have awesome tackling, block shedding, and coverage while the offense needs to 'execute' as some coach likes to say and get open, make catches, great blocking and running.
