Where Will Devyn Finish?

At this point in his career, Devyn Marble has a very strong chance to finish as a top-5 all-time scoring Hawkeye. The question is - where will he land?

Dev currently sits at 1,529 points, putting him 146 points behind #5 Ronnie Lester and 250 points behind #2 Acie Earl.

As of right now, Iowa is virtually assured 9 more games this year, counting the B1G tournament and a postseason tournament game. Over the course of these 9 games, Devyn would have to average the following to finish in the respective slots:

#5 Ronnie Lester - 16.2 ppg
#4 BJ Armstrong - 19.5 ppg
#3 Greg Stokes - 26.6 ppg
#2 Acie Earl- 27.8 ppg

Of course, the required average decreases the farther into both tournaments we go. What follows is the amount of points, up to us winning the B1G and national championships (why the hell not), for each slot, starting with 10 games remaining (or one win in the B1G tournament) to 18 games remaining (whole banana):

#5 14.6, 13.3, 12.2, 11.2, 10.4, 9.7, 9.1, 8.9, 8.1
#4 17.6, 16.0, 14.7, 13.5, 12.6, 11.7, 11, 10.4, 9.8
#3 23.9, 21.7, 19.9, 18.4, 17.1, 15.9, 14.9, 14.0, 13.3
#2 25.0, 22.7, 20.8, 19.2, 17.9, 16.7, 15.6, 14.7, 13.9

A nice middle of the road estimate of 2 wins in the B1G tourney and 1 in the NCAA (or vice versa) is highlighted.

I think we'll see Devyn reach the #4 slot with relative ease. I think if he reaches #3, he'll reach #2...and both are within shouting distance.

It will be interesting to watch.

...and yes, I know Aaron White will pass him next year.

#5; he cannot pass my favorite Hawkeye of all time BJ Armstrong.

In all seriousness though, if Iowa gets to a Sweet 16 it could be interesting.

This is really cool, thanks for doing it. He averages 16.5 per game so he should pass Ronnie Lester for sure and he would pass BJ Armstrong if Iowa wins 1 in the BTT and NCAA. If Iowa wins 2 in the BTT and 2 in the NCAA then he might pass them all and end up behind his dad.

If he manages to reach #2, that would be awesome. How many other schools could claim a father-son combo as their all-time leading scorers?

Just for gits and shiggles; if Iowa wins the Big Ten tournament and the national championship, and Devyn averages 29.1 ppg from Saturday on...

...we have a new career scoring leader at the State University of Iowa.

Let's say he got really "HOT". What does he need to avg to be the NCAA all time leading scorer?

This is ridiculous. There is no way we win the big 10 tourney and the NCAA tourney. The good news for Dev tho is we can lose both championship games and it won't affect his scoring total!

What's amazing is there is no online resource listing the all time leading scorers on Iowa's website or anywhere else.

There used to be, but they've apparently taken it down for some reason. Anyway, I tried this out for fun; see if anyone else can pull it off. I could only name 22/40 and forgot 5 guys I shouldn't have. Can you name Iowa's 1,000-point club? Dev, White and Basabe aren't included in this quiz.

Thought I'd bump this back up because the upcoming barrage of games is going to make these stats more relevant.

Also because I spent a good chunk on it and nobody read it.
