Where do you want the program to be in 3 years?

Everyone has an opinion on whether or not Lickliter should be fired or not, but I haven't seen anyone set a specific goal for where they want Iowa basketball to be in 3 years. .500? NIT? NCAA?

"Want?" I want them to win a NC in three years. Is there anyone who doesn't?

That might be the dumbest question I've ever seen on a message board. :p

There is no way I can think of to ask this question any clearer. Don't take things so literally.

How about, "What are your reasonable expectations for the program in three years?"

That wasn't so difficult, was it? However, I do appreciate the suggestion not to assume you mean what you say in the future.

:)

Not really. It doesn't make a difference.

It's like when someone asks how much you want to make at a job during an interview, and you say "TEN MILION DOLARZ LOL", you don't take it literally

In three years is a good question.

I am going to take a bit to get there though.

First, I would like to see the team continue to work hard this year to show additional improvement and develop more chemistry among the young roster. They seem to be starting to know where each other is going to be on the floor.

Second. I would have to say if that progress being shown this year does continue and player retention is not an issue at the end of the year, I would like to see the team finish the season next year right around the .500 mark. I am thinking an 9-4 out of conference record and then a 7-11 Big Ten record would get us to 16-15. Probably not enough for a NIT invite but solid improvement.

Third, with the solid senior class in two years, I would like to see a record of somewhere near 18-13 the following year. Probably not enough for the Big Dance but an NIT invitation would be nice. A couple wins in the NIT or maybe even a run to New York would be acceptable.

So that brings us to year three. With the players currently on the roster, the very good incoming class next year, sprinkle with that a couple solid sophomores and maybe a good freshman and I am hoping we can not only see a return to the top half of the Big Ten but also a good showing at the Big Ten tournament. I would think that would require a record of somewhere near 23-8 at the end of the season/ Maybe 12-1 out of conference and 11-7 in conference. That would get us to the Big Dance. Probably as a 9 seed?? That would result in a winnable matchup with an 8 seed. Those are usually tossups. After that a close loss in the second round or catch a break and make a sweet sixteen appearance.

Edit: It seems most on here think I am off my rocker, and some days I even think so myself, but I think this staff. given what we are currently seeing, will get us there.
