Is it a full house and fans are late getting back to their seats after halftime?

Were their empty seats, hundreds if not a 1000 or more for this game?

Is it the weather?

Have some of the fans decided they are witnessing another train wreck finish this season?

WTH

Sub par opponent and yes, the cold weather does keep people away. This hasn't exactly been appointment viewing the last week or so.

Its cold as sh*t out, they're playing Rutgers, and they just lost to Northwestern. That's where the fans are

Cold weather, B.S. This is IOWA, people are used to it. But when the product isn't exciting... people won't make the effort.

I think you knew the answer before you started this unnecessary thread

I really wasnt sure of the answer, yeah rutgers is bad but this was a big game to win, it is cold but not windy, not that bad.

I was really surprised at the vast number of empty seats.

I think they stayed home and are saving their nickels and dimes for an exciting upcoming football season.

Sarcasm meter please???

It looked bad on tv- Rutgers or not. We had our gimmie tonight and now the test comes in how we can close out. Something tells me if we have even a semi-ugly finish here empty seats will become fairly common in Carver next season and that seems concerning.

Lets hope we win on Sunday and the fans show up next week against Illinois.
And i agree that using the cold as an excuse is BS. I was at Iowa for the 2010-2012 teams (worse teams than this team) and i would walk 20 minutes to and from carver. You get used to the cold after about 5 minutes.

Maryland had lots of empty seats last night, too. No big deal.

We're you at the game? I didn't think so.

Instead of sitting at home complaining, get to Carver.

No fans showed up because Hawkeye hoop fans are the worst. Sorry, but this is a truth. I am one, so I feel I can judge our own fan base, but the misery some of ya'll sit in has to suck. The hostile fan base towards this program seems unmatched... or at least I can't think of another school that has a team that flirts with being top 25ish that has less support and is hated on more than Iowa by its own fans.

Creighton - currently 12-15 has more people showing up to their games.
Nebraska - currently 13-13 - you can't find a ticket to their games.

But Iowa?

We are in the midst of sealing our 2nd straight NCAA appearance - our 2nd straight 20 win regular season - our 2nd straight top half of the conference finish - With guys that Fran recruited to an Iowa program that hadn't been to the NCAA tournament since 2005/2006... and a lot of people want Fran fired.

So, you see how much our fan base sucks, cause it does.

Thursday night + cold as hell + turribul opponent + lacklaster effort last game + state high school wrasslin = low turnout.

Deal with it.

I agree - It's Iowa. Cold weather is not a new phenomenon and can't be used as an excuse. If there's a blizzard, then all bets are off, but simply being cold shouldn't stop people for showing up for games in this state. It wasn't a problem back in the Tom Davis days. The rest of the reasons listed in this thread are probably valid though - Bad opponent, uninspiring play as of late, etc. I just don't think the program has gotten back to the point where everyone is all-in just yet.
