When it comes to Iowa's D, the numbers lie

Jon had a write-up defending the Iowa Iowa's D that relied upon stats and numbers to prove his point. Sometimes that tells most of the story but with this D my eyes tell me differently. This defense has given up game winning drives to Zona, Wisky, Indiana and Northwestern. Fortunately Indiana dropped the winner but the other 3 losses we were either tied or had the lead with our strength on the field and the other team having to drive a long ways, and in 2 cases needing a TD

For this to be a truly special season we all knew we had to rely on the D. Whether it be injuries or just lack of plays being made the defense hasnt gotten it done and thats why we are looking at the Outback Bowl instead of the Rose Bowl. In my opinion this is a front running D that needs a lead to truly be good. If you wouldve told me before the season that NW would drive 89 yards in 3 minutes to take the lead I wouldve said you were crazy.

I overestimated the D and thats why im really disappointed right now sitting at 7-3

Going into the season I would have thought Iowa would have stopped 3 or maybe all 4 of those teams on a final drive to win the game but to stop none (Indiana stopped themselves) is humiliating - was embarrasing seeing Clayborn and Ballard on the sideline gasping for air with the game on the line today.
