What's this "If Norm retires garbage"?

Norm's not going to retire. Here's why:

1. If he was, he'd have done it last year (amputation, miss most of the season, "year from hell" according to Kirk). Why would he retire now if he came back for this year?
2. All he has to do is show up for games. No recruiting makes it much easier for him to stay around. He only has to leave IC on away games.
3. Kirk has said on numerous occasions that retiring is up to Norm, not influenced by Kirk. Kirk would never force him out, ever.

The only way he retires is if he says to himself that he just can't do it anymore. I personally feel his limitations really hurt the team thru lack of recruiting and not coaching positions anymore (he used to coach the LBs, and they were great BTW).

Norm already answered that question when he took a pay cut 4 years ago.

but its not that extra coin, we need, but a coach who can get out there and recruit, as well as do some positional coaching. heck, we pay Kirk 3+ million, what's a hundred thousand or so?

it boils down to what is best for the program

can't recruit off campus
limited in coaching duties
having other coach pull double duty which takes away from the quality of the other coaches job in what he is doing
Lb developement is suffering
ST are suffering

again, does his staying hurt or help,
this is the basis of my question he needs to ask himself
not to mention KF has to do what is best for his team
does being selfish AND stubborn help or hurt this team

I can't tell you who I got this from (journalist/ethics/etc., plus the source told me off the record), but my source has known Kirk for the better part of 40 years, and is naturally a friend of Norm's as well. He said he doesn't think Norm is going to come back next year.

Take that FWIW, but I'd at least like to think that I've proven to be above pot stirring just for sh*ts and giggles.

Good Info. So lets say he is going how long to the announcement before or after the bowl game ?

You can't tell me they can't come up with some position elsewhere in the University for Norm , with the leeway to be somewhat available to the football program. They did it for Dan Gable and he was still around wrestling. They did it for Bobby Elliot after he had medical issues. I think Norm could still be around but get some fresh talent into the coaching and recruiting game.

Assuming that he's leaving (my source just had a hunch, or at least that's all he let on to me), I don't think it will happen until after the bowl game. That's just an unnecessary distraction, and one that I don't get the feeling Norm would want to bring upon the program during bowl prep.
