What's the outcome if Bic lighter was still here?





I think it would be better than most people would imagine. I think record wise would be similar, maybe even a little better with Lick. He would have had a lot of time to figure things out, so I would hope so. I think you would see a more consistent team on defense. Offensively we wouldn't be able to do much at all. Our contests would be low scoring and boring.

Give Fran 2 more years and I think we have one of the top 3 teams in the big ten, which I don't think we would see with Lick, although I do question Fran's ability to create a Big Ten Championship Team with his style which I believe is for the most part ineffective and medieval for Division 1 basketball. The thing about Fran is that he can flat out recruit. I hope I am wrong, but I see an inconsistent program for however long Fran is here.

Odds are Gatens as well as others would not be here and would be replaced with more guys of Brommers talent. Nice try thou.

Would we have had any scholarship players left? We for sure would have lost the leading scorers the past two seasons.....

I think it would be worse than most people could imagine.

Gattens would not be here, few if any D1 caliber players period. Totally empty arena.

Starting lineup,

Cully Paine, Bust, Marble (if he hadn't transferred yet). May, Brommer/Archie.

Consistently bad? Our D was garbage when we had Lickliter. It just didn't seem as bad because we limited the other team's possessions by draining the shot clock on the offensive end.
 


Great topic, almost like if it was "What would our record be if Lute was still here?"

Time to let the past be the past when talking about former coaches and what kind of program we would be today with them. There are some topics that still amaze me that do get brought up in relation to the former coaches, like how many four year players Iowa has had in the last 15 years, it is alarmingly low. The Lickliter years are dead, some remnants remain, but not much longer as Iowa is a totaly different program today.

Fran is at Iowa and the future of Iowa basketball looks pretty darn good right now.

You must be Lick or a relative.

First Iowa wouldn't have 12 wins at this point because starting 5 walk ons and having 3 more walk ons coming off the bench doesn't equate to 12 wins.

And your second paragraph contradicts itself so bad it is humorous. Please tell me how his style is "ineffective and medieval". Are you saying most kids would rather play lick ball and score in the 40's and 50's instead of running up and down the court scoring in the 70's and 80's? And is high scoring games becoming medieval and college basketball is going back to the days of a peach basket when the scores were 18 to 12?

I am in no way related to Lick, I am not even trying to defend him as much as I am trying to caution people who think we can win a championship with this system. I'm not saying we can't, I just have my doubts. But trust me, I have been wrong before:) If you do happen to agree that we will not win a championship with this system, what the h*ll are we doing? I understand that we will give up a lot more points with this system, but we have to be able to crack down and get stops at crunch time which we have not been able to do. But why? whey can't we get stops at crunch time? I will not buy that our players are not good enough yet. I love Fran's passion and I love him in interviews and press conferences. He knows the D needs to get better, but why isn't it?

You don't know that Lick wouldn't have 12 wins...things change, coaching styles change, assistance change, players change. I hope your not serious that they would be starting 5 walk ons and having three more coming off the bench...? what he is just going to forget to even try to recruit?

Secondly, tell me the last team that has won a championship with this philosophy? Ill wait.

No way would kids rather play Lick ball...that's why Fran will have more success than Lick. I just don't see him winning a championship here at Iowa unless he can adapt. Again, we can give up points, but you absolutely have to be able to get stops at crunch time.

I will say that is a very good point whoever said that one main reason why teams didn't score a lot against Lick is because he would take the air out of the ball.

Your lineup is probably correct, I actually forgotten all about CP. That is one gawd aweful lineup. But I forget, did Marble commit while Lick was coach? Marble is to much of an athlete for Licks system, the first time he drove to the basket without first passing 50 times he would have been benched for Larson.
