...mutual parting?

If KF were to mutually step down on his own accord, how would that play out?

Is it 8 mm, 10 mm, lower/ higher? Is there certain requests that could be negotiated for Sons Brian and Steve, rest of staff, etc? I know it's an area where anything would be in play...but what would be fair.

He's got us over a barrel. He could go be an position coach in the NFL, college or whatever, and still make serious bank from the U of I. I think a mutual agreement could be whatever number KF puts on the table if he and his people want to be dicks about it.

Kurt has no incentive, NONE, to compromise. He has all the leverage. That's the special part of the Barta Special.

This topic hurts more than watching him coach... the amazing incompetence of Barta is beyond explanation.

I just dont get it...if I'm KF why would I negotiate a buyout? The university signed me to a specific contract at a guaranteed rate. It's the Universities fault they offered what they did, it's not mine. If any one of us were sitting there staring at either an $8MM buyout or a guaranteed $13MM, we're all taking the $13MM every day and twice on sunday.

It's a business and if someone is shoving me out the door while at the same time trying to reduce my salary that they promised me, I'm showing them my middle finger. Especially when the University is staring in the face of $50MM a year in BTN money in the very near future. Especially when I worked so hard to get the brand new facilities up and running.

I guess the bottom line is there is no point...whatsoever...in negotiating a reduced buyout if you're KF. The school has more than enough revenue in TV deals alone to pay for my remaining $13MM. Does it "save face" that he takes 5 million less dollars to leave? Not at all. Will any of us, 15 years from now when they introduce Kirk at halftime of the Ball State game, remember that Kirk took a $5M discount to leave the university on "good terms"? Nope.

I'm all for KF leaving, but it's solely the Universities fault that the contract is what it is.

The only reason KF would negotiate a buy out is to try to save his legacy. It's hard to admit that the game has passed you by, but when you look at the results against teams with a heartbeat, and the recruits coming in, you might want to get out before the program is completely burnt to the ground. But he is too stubborn, and I'm sure believes he can turn this around. Me and most other logical human beings don't think he can, but I'm sure he wants to prove us wrong and go out on top...not because of what the fans think, but because he still believes he is a good football coach and wants to prove it to himself.
