What will his salary be?

What was Lick paid 1.4? Something like that. I have to believe that McCaffery will make less, considering his less impressive resume. But who knows, Barta might have been dumb enough to make him the highest paid coach in the Big Ten.

I just hope it's not a 7 year contract.

According to Todd Brommelkamp from what he found, McC was making near 500k a year and under contract through 2016-17 at Siena. He thought his buyout would be around $2M. I can't imagine him making more than Lickliter did. If he does end up making more than Lickliter and signs a 7 year contract, I'd really question Barta's reasoning behind this given past experiences.

+1, I don't disagree with Barta about the hire, but a similar contract that was given to Lick would make me question Barta.

Giving the guy a long contract is fine by me. I just want some wins and stability in the program. A long contract gives you the stability.

But what if you have stability without the wins? See ISU's current situation on why having a long contract/stability doesn't always equal success.

That was my first question. I'm excited that we have a guy and am behind him and will support him.

But this is a huge gamble. Give him all the bonus money for performance that you want, but please don't break the bank with his salary. If he's truly the guy and has the program turned around in a few years we can give him a new contract at that time.
