what will barta's legacy be

If the million dollar guys are still giving money, they obviously don't give a flying **** whether Iowa is good or not. They're just giving cause they're rich and they can. As long as they do we'll continue the downward spiral.

Reading the tweet about security getting involved in a donor chasing down Greg Davis before the half in one of the suites yesterday makes me think twice about the big money people not caring. I think the overall culture at Iowa puts more emphasis on developing student athletes and doing things the right away than it does winning and Barta, Ferentz and McCaffery all fit that mold pretty well. At some point the big money people want to get a return on their investment and at least in football I sense some growing impatience. It will start to get really interesting if we don't make the NCAA tournament this season and attendance in basketball starts to slide. Not sure Barta got that hire right either.

Gary Barta: Eat a bag of ****! You suck!
Now that's pretty much to the point, sir, not much gray area in this one. .

I'm thinking it will be something along the lines of "how to suck up to keep your job". Right now, he's got his head so far up Sally Mason's butt that she can't walk straight, and she has a big arse too, so normally she would be able to walk fine with just a little butt stuffing. But Gary is really in there and it's pressuring her hips and all. My concern is that she has begun to like it as it's been awhile since anyone has ventured anywhere close to her nether regions...and they really are as far nether as it gets too.

My guess is that Gary becomes a permanent fixture in her arse. He tenure has become quite odiferous.

Last in directors cup year after year. Gave us an football coach immune from the ax

He will be a respected man of the community, wherever he decides to retire to. He will be a very wealthy man. Hopefully, he will be loved by family, friends, and God. What is it you want to be remembered for? He seems like a fairly intelligent man, and I don't think he is to worried about what a bunch of fans think. Hopefully, Fran and the football coach aren't to worried about it either.

teaching the University of Iowa how to lose and somehow feel good about it. Congrats Gary...you suck.

I love guys like you who would never have the guts to take on the responsibilities that GB's job requires; and, you can use an anonymous internet post to tell GB he sucks...your bravery is overwhelming. I think "who sucks" may be up for discussion.

How do you measure success in that role? Because I didn't pursue athletics administration doesn't mean I wouldn't have the guts to take on his responsibilities. Where does that come from? How do you know I'm not brave? Let me ask you a question. Does Gary have the guts to take on his football coach? His football coach has underperformed given the expectations from a contract extension. He wasn't extended to win half his Big Ten games over the past 4 years...and lose to his instate rival more than he wins, was he? Iowa state may only win 2 games this year, and one will be against Iowa in Kinnick Stadium. Do you understand how bad you have to fail as a coach to lose to Iowa State at home this year. My god, Kansas beat them. We have not beaten a good team this year...every team with a pulse has beaten us.

The expectations are way too low for KF in my opinion. He needs to be held up against his peers. Should we measure him against Mark Dantonio and Bret Beilema (prior to leaving the Big Ten), or Tim Bennett and Kevin Wilson? I hope we are measuring him against the top coaches in the conference. Do you think Barta sits him down and says, you need to do better? I don't believe that.

Up until this year, I've held my tongue on KF and wholeheartedly supported him. I realized this year, I don't think we can expect anything different from a KF coached team. We will lose two or three games to team we have no business losing to...awful losses. He's got all the resources, facilities, etc to have a top 20 program every year and we pay him according to those expectations. Why do we settle for 4 years in row with lower results?

If you had written this post rather than your original, I would not have leveled any criticism at you, even though I don't totally agree with your conclusions. As to your first paragraph, only you can judge whether or not you have the strength of character it takes to be a big time athletic director; and, I stick to my guns on anonymous internet posts.

A good fundraiser who wasn't good at hiring coaches. Also, he gave a football coach a outrageous contract that allowed average seasons to continue.

Barta is a terrible AD and I've been saying that for years.

I appreciate what you are saying. The "you suck" was a little harsh. I'm frustrated with our AD because I believe maybe some complacency has set into the program and it's the athletic director's job to ensure we have the right people in place, they have the resources and support to be successful, and then he must provide the accountability to measure them to standards of what you call excellence. I think the University has given Kirk Ferentz everything he has asked for and then some. I don't care how much money he makes, as a fan, I care whether he represents the University well (isn't on a motorcycle with his secretary), and whether he wins...and most of the time, not in that order.

If you have a University structure that kisses his arse and understands and commiserates about how hard it is to win at Iowa, what with the limited highly rated players in the state and cold weather. I simply don't buy it. There is this thing called cable that allows you to show off your brand every week. Then this internet thing even expands it. We don't have to limit ourselves to recruits in the midwest anymore...we just need smart people to market the university with the football recruiters.

But most importantly, Kirk Ferentz needs to deliver on the field to build his brand. Guess what, our offense most of the time is scaring recruits away and he should be held accountable for the Greg Davis hire. And I don't want to hear about how many points we have scored this year compared to the past few years. What you need to understand is that against the two decent defenses we have faced this year...Minnesota and Wisconsin, we have averaged roughly 15 points a game. (I don't count KF's timeout lame *** touchdown with 15 seconds left at Minnesota). That's not doing much for recruiting and he should be held accountable.

I don't think Gary does that nor does he feel he has a right too. KF is beyond reproach by the people in charge, and that is a recipe that will catch up to you.

and what did Bob know when he walked out the door
To be fair whether he had much to do with it or not.He was present when we upgraded our facilities for BB and FB complex. Items sorely needed to keep up with the Jones. He manuvered Alfraud into leaving with out a buy out. However, he screwed the pooch when he followed that up with the disastarous Lick hire. The jury is still out on Fran(but I am still a fan). He gave us no leverage with Ferentz with that ridiculous 10 year contract. IF he could somehow find a way to get us out of it and hire a coach that would really revitalize the fanbase like a Stoops, then he could still go down as a decent AD.

I think out of all the sports at all the Big Ten schools, Iowa is down near the bottom. At least our Wrestling and Girls Basketball teams are supposed to be good this year!!!!

I know this won't be popular either, but why the hell is he giving Fran an extension after losing 7 or 8 games down the stretch. We lost to a horrible NW team in the B10 tourney and it cost us an actual invite in the 64 teams. I know we made the tournament...but you know what I'm saying.

Before everyone starts throwing tomatoes and other things, I'm a huge Fran fan. I think he's done a fantastic job building the program back to where it needs to be and I think he gets that. What I'm questioning is the timing...and where I have an issue with Barta on both KF and this extension for Fran. The basketball team tanked in epic proportions last year and we reward that with an extension? Why. Fran has 3 more years on his contract. Give him your vote of confidence, but that finish doesn't garner a contract extension.

As for KF...even after failing to beat a team with a winning record, Barta will be kissing his butt as always. They are friends and Barta worships him. Someone needs to tell Barta he's tied to the stake right now and his football coach is arming the fan base with a lighter and gasoline. Geez, gas is cheap right now too...good timing.
