What was the reason no BIGX!! school was included in the national championship, again

As I'm watching TCU hand Ole Miss their head in the Chick-Fil-A bowl, this is what I'm wondering.

Because the BIGXII didn't have a playoff??!. Really??!

It's all about politics IMO.
The committee, given the responsibility to choose the 4 teams for the playoffs, didn't want the possibility of more than one school from any one conference being in the playoffs. A conference championship game would take care of that.

How do you feel that, IMO, because of politics, the four best teams in division one AREN'T included in the playoffs? Kinda takes some bloom off the playoffs 'rose' to realize the national champion is also a political champion.

Are the playoffs going to at least 8 teams next season? 'Cause if you ask me, these playoffs are flawed.

When a Mountain West team can dominate your conference, then your conference suckz.

Agree but the premise every year starts with the assumption that the SEC is far better than everyone else. Their teams do not drop much even after a loss. Keep in mind this Mississippi team beat Bama, the # 1 seed. What if Bama losses to OSU? What would that say about the weight given to the SEC strength by the committee in their rankings?

Should have been 8 to start with auto bids to the Power 5, then next best 3 from any league or independent. That would have been great to see it played out on the field. No stupid committees needed. The only issue is this adds an extra round so when does the first round begin?

My point is: the committee that chooses the national playoff teams is attempting to remove itself from evaluating playoff candidates as much as possible and therefore attempting to remove any 'controversy' that may occur from their playoff choices.

It's easy peasy. Only conference champions are eligible for the playoffs. Everyone else is eliminated (as long as there are only 4 teams). This, of course, doesn't guarantee the best team wins the championship any more than the computer rankings and polls of previous years.

^ No kidding. Baylor won the B12, but the conference refused to give them the title. Serves them right. 4 undisputed conference champs made the playoffs, just the way it should be.

Which of the four conference champions in the Final Four were you going to remove to put the second place BigXII team in?

two weeks after thanksgiving.
first round at higher-seeded field.
only super-5 conference champs seeded 1-5 (unless independent or lesser conference ranked 3 spots higher in RPI-type system.)
