Didn’t catch the game last night and just saw the score on the local Utah sports news.

Northwestern 14 Utah 7. Whaaaaaaat???

Big Ten West is terrible. They can’t beat anyone.
Northwestern is terrible. Big drunk the night before. Would you be hyped up to play Northwestern in a bowl game? I think they both ended up with five losses. Gotta give the Northwestern coach credit for doing as well as he did.

Isn't the OC at Utah being considered for the Iowa job? 7 offensive points would fit right in.
Oh brother I hope not. I just noticed surfing the channels that the game is being re-run now on ESPNU.

Some how I don’t have the stomach for a 14-7 re-run of two five loss teams.

I wouldn't let one game define him. This year, his offense was down, but he has a long history as a very successful OC.

At Utah he's had 5 seasons. PPG from '19-23: 32.3, 30.2, 36.0, 38.6, 23.2
At Vanderbilt: '15-'18: 15, 23, 25, 28.5
At Wisconsin: '13-'14: 34.4, 34.8
At SDSU, Cal, and Utah from '05-'12: 30, 28, 26, 37, 28, 23, 30, 33.

That's 15 of his 19 seasons at or above the BF line.

Good point, actually great point. Purdue also hasn’t been a slouch on the offensive side of the ball.

It would be interesting to see what Iowa’s offense has looked like over those same years. I don’t know maybe it’s just as good if not better and these last three years have just left such a bitter taste in everyone’s mouth.

Without looking it up, I think we've been in the mid 20's most years. 2020, without non-conference cupcakes, we were in the low 30's, which was KF's 2nd highest PPG, after the 2002 team. I don't have a stat to back this up, but I would guess, because of our style, we don't run as many plays as most teams. Again, I haven't researched this so I could be way off.

I think you are likely very close on your estimations.

I am just beside myself too be perfectly honest. I’ve always liked it that compared to many programs Iowa has been relatively clean. I few players have told me in confidence about hundred dollar hand shakes they would have to help with meals and other minor expenses. Nothing like running back Bush for over at USC or what Clarette (?) got at Ohio State. Not to mention all the violations over the years in the SEC. So I would rather cheer for and support a fairly successful program like Iowa over supporting one of the power houses that have built there programs through corrupt kickbacks to players and/or their parents.

Now having said that we could be so much better if Kirk would stretch himself and think a little out of the box and try to hire an offensive coordinator who has the creativity and reputation that can bring in the skilled players, (QB’s, wideouts, running backs) that can at least create an offense that ranks in the top sixty. That should be the least level achievable with the facilities, fan base, premier conference, and stable coaching staff that Iowa has.

I know some may not think this way but with limited scholarships rules, the NIL should work in Iowa’s favor. We don’t have to be a perineal power to get some of the best players. Just NIL them in. The money that is already coming in from the BTN is only going to grow, along with wealthy boosters to help and Iowa should be able to significantly upgrade their offense.

Good grief we all see it. The defense is at a level that is good enough. Kirk needs to swallow his pride and be willing to change his stubbornness and adapt to the changing landscape of college football. This isn’t Woody Hayes, or Joe Paterno football anymore.

These bowls are wild now. How many guys opted out for Utah? I bet Northwestern didn't have hardly any. I didn't watch but if I had to guess it probably had the feel of Iowa's game against Kentucky last yr when they had so many guys out.

Good for Northwestern and the league. It doesn't hurt I just don't see how one can take all that much away from it is all.

Yeah I was happy for Northwestern and their fans. Also it is always good for the conference when they win as it makes the conference look stronger. It makes you wonder why they struggled so much last year and why the players appear to be playing harder this year for their interim coach.

Row Row Row Your Boat is doing a nice poor man's KF. He wins 8 or 9 games in a good year, but even in an off year where he is .500 (or below) he finds a way to win a game against a ranked opponent he should not (this year, Iowa) sneak into a crappy bowl game, win, and give the fans a little uplift/hope. Now, the expectations at Minny are a game or two less per year than Iowa, but its basically a scaled back version of what Iowa does.

Except apparently Utah...
Lol,
They did lose a lot of players to injuries and the portal .

Sounds like their QB coach did interview for a position at Iowa. He had one of the top QB’s in college football who played last year and this year until he got injured.
