What percent of the offense is the QB directly responsible for?

I've often wondered, if you put Tom Brady and Peyton Manning in the same exact situation with all variables the same, would they each react the same. What I'm getting at, is that JVB (or any quarterback) makes decisions on every play, but more so on pass plays. Ruddock may not have skills as progressed as JVB, but would his DECISION skills be better.

I don't believe that a stagnant offense is attributable to the O.C. JVB needs to make better decisions. I don't believe its our O line. JVB needs to make better decisions. I don't believe its our Defenses fault. I don't believe its Ferentz's fault.

So to answer my question, I would say that 75% of the offenses success is directly related to split second decisions that the quarterback makes. (Stanzi was a quick thinker, so was Drew Tate. so was Banks, so was Chuck Long). JVB studies too much film, and doesn't PLAY the game IMO.

its 100% the reason for all of Iowa's losses is because JVB doesn't know how to throw the football.

Agree with the OP. The QB can make or break you. If you don't have a dominate running game and can allow the qb to just "manage", the QB is even more important. jvg has struggled, and the wr's haven't been good enough to bail him out.

A lot will have to go right for us to win 2-3 more games this year...."sigh"

If Tom Brady or Peyton Manning were playing quarterback for Iowa they'd be undefeated. You could make that statement about 50 other teams as well. They're likely NFL HOFers for a reason.

When you factor is adjustments made before the snap, the QB literally controls 100% of the offense

Interesting points made. A friend of mine, who is a pretty good football mind, said the day of the "game manager" type QB is about over. Good to excellent teams have to have someone who can really make some plays at the QB spot. Had not thought about it that way, but he may be on to something.

I'd say it's more on his inability to see the field and slow the game down more so than his arm. That said, it wouldn't hurt to mix in some changeups when he's only throwing for or five yards down field. Arm strength is a good attribute to have, but I don't think it needs to be showed off quite so much when the receivers are as close as they are.

Definitely agree, gamebreakers are a must to be successful in college football and what a better position to have one at then someone to touches the ball every snap.
