"What is an Iowa Hawkeye?" by LSU blogger

a good, humorous read:

The Outback Bowl is still 24 days away, but it's never too early to begin preparing. Knowing your opponent is essential any time you step onto the field, and with an out of conference foe that LSU hasn't seen in nearly a decade, some early preparation is essential. While I'm not a coach, I am a blogger, and I consider it my utmost responsibility to educate the masses. As such, I've gone to great research lengths to unearth the question, "What is an Iowa Hawkeye?"

What is an Iowa Hawkeye? - And The Valley Shook

This coming from a fan of a team whose mascot is shared by 2 other teams in their own conference.

"What is a tiger?"

Either a Missourian, an Auburnite, or that team from the sewer system of the Midwest (seriously, Baton Rouge is a cesspool of drainage from the MW and dirty industries in LA).

I've never been a fan of "big cat" mascots that have absolutely no geographic relevance, or any theme mascot for that matter. There are no tigers in louisiana, I believe they all live in central asia. Or for example, the UNI panthers...what? Sure it's kind of intimidating, but it's also stupid.

When I think of "the tigers", I actually think of LSU. But still, their mascot sucks.

Not that it's the funniest thing I've ever read but it's amusing. You guys must hate fun.

Hahaha! Funny read. I don't think I have ever vomited harder than after drinking Hawkeye vodka. It's hard to mix that with anything really, but for the price, I'd choke down a shot or two when I was in college.

I've been working on a list of the top ten unique team names. Teams names that are one word, colorful and recognizable. Here are some of my nominees:
Hawkeyes, Buckeyes, Hoosiers, Sooners, Shockers, Hokies, Razorbacks, Hoyas, Vandals, Miners

Some of those comments were pretty funny. I liked this one:

[h=2] Other origins of "Hawkeye"....[/h]“Hawkeye” is Cahokia (an Iowa tribe) roughly translated"Man (or men) who fall for (suckered by) dishonest (fake) punts".
In Old English, the phrase, “wit ’Awckes Aye”, loosely translate to, “wth punts comes wins; punting is winning”.
And finally, the high Germanic, “und haakegise”, which is “a drunken consumer of big *** turkey legs”.

A link on the right margin of that one....

Corn Versus Corndogs - And The Valley Shook

could replace "LSU" with "Iowa" in this paragraph

"One of the central tenants of Delusional Optimism is not having anything handed to us. Everything LSU gets, we have to earn, sometimes twice. Other programs get born on third base and brag about hitting a triple, but that's just not the way it's ever been or is going to be for the Bayou Bengals. Things come hard, and we need to celebrate when we simply don't get screwed over by SEC politics."

" I don't want to say Nick Saban's last game as LSU's head coach was a disaster, it did come down to the final seconds, but Saban taking potshots at Jesse Daniels for blowing coverage on his way out the door to the NFL was one of those things that left a sour taste in my mouth. That wasn't a teaching moment, it was blame-shifting."

interesting, Saban was throwing his kicker and DBs under the bus after the Auburn loss 2 weeks ago too

I find the enjoyment they get out of our punt defense amusing. Correct me if I'm wrong, but haven't stupid decisions to fake punts and get stuffed doing so cost LSU a few games? For some reasaon I was thiniking that the Mad Hatter has made some pretty big mistakes in the past in that regard.

Anyway, interesting article. I was shocked that anyone from Louisianna knew how to spell and or put words into complete sentences. Learn something new everyday.

Pretty sure at least some of those comments were made by Hawkeye fans.

Geez, at least the guys did some research and tried to put his own spin on it. If only we could get more posters on this board to do that. I thought it was pretty funny.
