What if a Big Donor Buys Out Ferentz's Contract...

Who would you go after as the next Iowa HC? Personally, I think a good option would be Pat Narduzzi (MSU Defensive Coordinator/Assistant Head Coach). He has made it known that if the right opportunity came along for him to become a HC he would do it. I think Iowa would be a great fit for him. And here is a novel concept, he gives shout outs to his players on Twitter all the time. Is very active in social media, which is a hit with recruits. If he could lure in a good Offensive Coordinator, he could be in business. Unfortunately, I think he has to be picked up this year because he will be a HC next year (potentially Illinois or Indiana). It's fun to play the what if game once in a while. Lets keep this thread off of KF and solely on who you would want to replace him and why.

The buyout is already a sunk cost. Whether Kirk stays or goes, Iowa is going to be paying him a lot of money now through 2014...it will either be the 3.6 or whatever it is or 75% of that...per year...guaranteed. So that cost is already there.

It's always going to be a matter of if Iowa wants to pay that AND pay someone else at least 2 mil a year...because if they hire someone who will make less than that, guarantee the fan base goes all Huskerfan.

Even if a big donor donates $21 million, specifically, to buy-out Ferentz, I don't think Barta would accept the money.

The lack of sellouts should start to be a concern.
I'd have to think that it was pre-Hayden the last time the Wisconsin game didn't sell out.

Get to a bowl game and the grumblings are minimized with more optimism for 2014.
Finish 5-7 and the message boards will be crazy the next 10 months.

The Ferentz era feels like a stock.
IPO was low, has tremendous run-up in the beginning, regressed, had one last bounce, and now is slowly hanging on to not being delisted.

Go 5-7 and the fb boards will be crazy empty with everyone except, well, a few....stating pretty much the same things over and over. Also 5-7 should bring an ultimatum for 7+ wins next year.

6-6, prolly the same depending on a bowl win or not.

7-5 will bring some promise and optimistic folks, outside of a few that are tired of "mediocrity".

8-4 should have everyone excited as unlikely as it is. Cause, well, that's a good year considering.

I would take 8 wins most years(with an occaisional 9+ year) but I'm an apologist, koolaid drinker, and lover of mediocrity and...well....reality.

Beat Purdue.

Back to answering the OP's original question, it's never going to happen. But in the highly unlikely event it does, there's a large segment of the Iowa football fan base that would react with:

I realize coaching has much to do with how this team has been failing this year, but when do we hold the players accountable? Dropped passes, missed assignments, bad coverage... the list could go on. Please quit being drastic about KF and worry about beating our last 3 teams. We have lost to teams with a combined 2 losses. It hasn't been the best year obviously but I think with a first year QB a possible 8-4 is a success IMO.

True. Lets not forget that while the ol may be deeper, they are not dominating. We have played several games where they just plain were not and a few where they held their own and a few where they were. Run game lives and dies right there. Thats why i said, i know kf and bf would like to line up and run it right down everybodies throat, but we just cant, when you keep running into a wall try someone different. Defending a fast slippery back is almost the same as a fast slippery qb. Just a little crack and bam they are thru it. But i digress, i feel as i am banging my head against a wall by my obsessive need to keep saying the same things. Then again i always did like talking to myself, i find myself to be pretty good company. :)

KirK Ferentz is the best HC in the history of Iowa football. People have short memories. I hope he stays around for the next 15 years.

May God have mercy on our souls the day Gary Barta gets to hire a football coach.

I am of the strong opinion that when Iowa does have to look for a new head coach it should be someone with a strong offensive philosophy because the game is so slanted in favor of offenses.

Also, I'm guessing that hiring another coach that focuses on defense at the expense of the offense, would get a reaction from the fan base (or at least these message boards) similar to what we would have seen if another basketball coach who likes to keep the games in the 50's would've been hired to replace Lick. The fans needed a change of pace, something up-tempo. I think there's probably a similar feel around the football program. But really, whoever the next coach is, I'd like to see someone who at least is keeping up with the times rather than being stuck in the 1990's.

Coaches hold the players accountable.
Message board posters hold coaches accountable.
Message board posters need to be mindful of calling players out by name.
I remember a time when officials didn't mention jersey number on a penalty.

We've mentioned the drop passes by this receiving corps. Still curious how Erik Campbell flamed out in 2012 as WR coach.

If we finish 8-4, YES, that should be considered a success by all.

Suggesting that a "big donor" would buy out KF's contract is just plain silly. BTW, the comment about not wanting GB to hire a new football coach: How did he do with Fran the Man? If you think BG would not go after a coach who featured a solid defense and a potent offense, you need to re-examine your thought process. Now, who would come to Iowa? For how much?

Ya really I mean Fran the Man brought a 2nd place NIT trophy home to IC. Obvious home-run hire is obvious.

How do you know that a coach being active on social media is really a hit with recruits?

What trophies has the Mayor brought to Ames?

Besides to defend Fran, he took a bottom of the barrel horrible program and constantly improved each year by number of wins, not to be confused by ISU logic with Paul Rhoads by "improving" meaning fan perception of the program "improving".
