It is an arms race. Iowa needs top shelf talent. I agree he needs to close the deal. Parents can tell kids to look at their options. Coaches need to sell what they can offer and tell them how much they want them and how much they are valued.
Not dangle them by a string or a yo-yo. Go look around, that's ok.......be sure, but when you sign that's it! Hook em and real them in. I don't think a coach needs to trash another program to a recruit in the process and they certainly can't officially stop them from looking early in the process, but they have to sell.
And you can do all of those things Jon mentioned afterwards with your scholarship players, but I can't say being lukewarm in your selling is going to help us with recruiting and competing with the blue bloods.
And, I get what Jon is saying about not wanting to be burned by xyz recruit, but Iowa is in need of talent right now in the skill positions. You might have lost Eno anyway, but geez don't chase the kid away because he peaked at some other schools. It seems like Iowa maybe needed to work harder on this kid? We will never know for sure though. On field play this year has probably not helped.
In the end, it is a bummer it did not work out. But Iowa really needs to upgrade the skill positions. This does not help. But, I'm sure they can find some 2 star to coach up with little to zero offers from other schools.
The timing of this makes it look even worse though with how things have been going this year. They are kind of dammed of they do and dammed if they don't in this situation. Under performing year, the contract, now this. The perfect bad storm.
