What do you do with the additional scholly now available?

If you could sign one additional player for next years squad (which we can) and assuming absolutely nobody else leaves at the end of the year would you sign:

PG
Combo Guard
Small Forward
Power Forward
Center
Bank Scholly for 2011-12

Personally, I would use use it for a guard as a legit backup for Payne or a TRUE center. Two positions we need to fill. That's me.

However, from the sound of things Lickliter is planning on saving this scholarship for 2011. Bad move IMO.

Perimeter playmaking guard...a slasher who can handle and drive and dish and most importantly a tough defender.

Hopefully this scholarship can go to someone who is more than just a "legit backup".. We need to get someone that can be more of an impact player, IMO. I would say a true PG would be first on my wishlist, but a good true center would be a close 2nd.

I agree though that we should use this scholarship right now, but only if there is a good prospect available.

Bank it for what?

There's not a position, currently, where we are deep.

If there's player available, (Kurt Alexander, Kaylon Williams come to mind, right away) get a player in here.

There's only one position that Iowa should be looking to fill on the court at this time and that is PG. The person doesn't need to be the #1 PG but be fully capable of filling that position. He must also be able to shoot well and break down a defense and open things up for his mates.Start wit the #1 Juco in the country and work your way down the list.

He can't recruit a difference maker so he might as well bank it for the next guy to see what he can do with it. If he goes out and just gets another project he needs to be shown the door....

Lets say you're right and Lick decides to offer a playmaker or wing player. What does that do to your starting 5 and rotation?

We've currently got Payne, May and Gatens that occupy the three guard positions and Fuller occupying what I like to call our MF or midget forward position. We have two Wing type players coming in next year already and a 3rd would only add to the backlog at that position.

Most people can see that our immediate needs are PG and C. I mean no offense to Payne, Cole, Cougill and Brommer because I think all 4 of them can contribute but Cole, Cougill and Brommer can all play the 4 or 5 positions if given the opportunity. Those are the only 3 guys that are on the roster now that seem to be able to contribute. Our RS Juco Transfer guy is compared to Kurt Looby....seriously? Kurt Looby was a tall drink of water that had almost no basketball skills. That doesn't bode well to be compared to him.

Payne is backed up by a scrub (jon's phrase not mine). No other player on this years roster seems to be capable of playing the point. Our recruits next year are primarily undersized 4s and 2s, which we seem to have plenty of already.

We need a tall bean pole that can stand in the middle and alter shots or a 7' 350# space saver that occupies space and sets some pretty serious screen. OR we need a lightning fast PG that can dribble penetrate and add depth to the team.

I bring this up because your opinion appears to mirror our current coaching staff. I really don't know what they are thinking at times.
