What Big Ten Coaches are saying about: Iowa

“What a wild offseason for the Hawkeyes. They were expected to compete for the Big Ten title last year, but way underperformed. Now they must replace a massive senior class plus they also lost safety Tyler Sash (who left early for the NFL) and dismissed running back Adam Robinson for off-the-field issues."

"James Vandenberg takes over (at quarterback), and he will be one of several new faces."

"Running back seems to be okay with Marcus Coker, who just blew up in the Insight Bowl."

"The unknown is how will the Hawkeyes respond to the January weightlifting episode that sent 13 players to the hospital? Will they rally together or will there be dissenters? That could be a very real problem. The good news is the schedule is fairly tame and Iowa very easily could enter November at 7–1."

"Just because you’re young doesn’t mean you’re going to be worse. They’ve got guys champing at the bit for an opportunity. Are they going to go through some growing pains early? Yeah. Because they don’t have that experience. But how do those young guys progress in season?”

Let's play a guessing game of who is responsible for each quote above.

How will the Hawkeyes respond to the January weightlifting episode? Jeesus...it's old news...let it go buddy.

Here are my guesses for who said what:

“What a wild offseason for the Hawkeyes. They were expected to compete for the Big Ten title last year, but way underperformed. Now they must replace a massive senior class plus they also lost safety Tyler Sash (who left early for the NFL) and dismissed running back Adam Robinson for off-the-field issues." I guess Bielema. Seems to know plenty about the Hawks but still managed to get a jab in about "way underperformed"

"James Vandenberg takes over (at quarterback), and he will be one of several new faces." Zook, although I believe Zook actually said "running back"

"Running back seems to be okay with Marcus Coker, who just blew up in the Insight Bowl." Brady Hoke

"The unknown is how will the Hawkeyes respond to the January weightlifting episode that sent 13 players to the hospital? Will they rally together or will there be dissenters? That could be a very real problem. The good news is the schedule is fairly tame and Iowa very easily could enter November at 7–1." Dantonio. No doubt this was Mark Dantonio

"Just because you’re young doesn’t mean you’re going to be worse. They’ve got guys champing at the bit for an opportunity. Are they going to go through some growing pains early? Yeah. Because they don’t have that experience. But how do those young guys progress in season?” Paterno

.

Edit: And I'm guessing that none of these quotes are from the Zooker, they probably asked coaches that will face Iowa what they thought, plus none of them seem dumb enough or off the wall comments that the Zooker would make.

I call BS on this article. Most coaches don't sound like ESPN analysts. The fourth quote in particular sounds like Kirk Herbstreit or someone similar, and the first quote sounds like something Chris Fowler would say when introducing a segment about Iowa.

And there's no way that other head coaches in the league are memorizing our schedule and projecting our record month by month.

i like hawk in gopher land's guesses. I'm guessing that Fitzgerald, too, would love to get in a negative along with Dantonio and Biels.

Agreed. This "article" is a farce. There is no way the coaches said these things.

that definitely crossed my mind as well, as a couple did not sound like coach-speak at all.

I forgot about Fitz. He may be responsible for 1st quote about 'underperforming' and Biels the last quote about 'champing at the bit' although it sounds like Paterno too.

I didn't read the other teams, but I'm guessing KF doesn't give these mags the time of day for this kind of thing: "what do you think about so-and-so?" KF never tips his hat and would just say something about worrying about our own team right now....
