What are your expectations for next year?

Ok.... I believe we all will expect an NCAA birth next year. I know just a birth would seem the next logical step but I must say I would be disappointed with just a birth. I feel this team is going to be deep next year and as I said in another thread our chance to make a run.

What seed do you expect for the NCAA tourney?
Do you expect or anticipate a sweet 16 run? How about elite 8?

Answers to my own questions.... With the returning talent and depth we have and as well as Marble is playing I would expect a 4-5 seed with a trip to the sweet 16!!

I would like to see next years team win the B1G title and get a 2-3 seed. Yes lofty but I think this team could pull it off.

I need to edit this I originaly read the OP as what would you like to see...that is totally different from my expectaions.

My expectations are nothing lower then finishing 4th in the b1G and making it to the well its now the 3rd round of the NCAA.

Sounds reasonable.

Besides the obvious (injuries) the X-factors are:
1) RDM sustaining his level of play (and, hopefully, A-dub returning to his).
2) Sustaining the defensive intensity (This is where May will be missed the most.)
3) Uthoff / Jok's shooting contributions. (Even just average perimeter shooting - 33-35% - would've won 4-5 more games this year.)
4) Woody becoming less deliberate / predictable and more instinctive / aggressive in his offense.

If all of these can come together, this team can contend for conference champs and sweet-16 would be expected.

Honestly I say dont expect anything let them go out and do what they are going to do. We as Hawk fans have been burned by assuming a team should just be good because X amount of returning players and Y strength of schedule. Cheer for them when they play and hope the W column grows exponentially faster than the L.

Keep in mind....MSU is a national title contender...Ohio State and Michigan may not be far off..All three of those teams are preseason Top 15 teams, Iowa is not AND Iowa will be playing each of them twice next year as opposed to just once this past season. Indiana will have a lot of young talent. Purdue is going to be an NCAA bubble team perhaps and I think Wisconsin will be in that range, too.

Five seed suggests a team ranked 17th-20th in the polls, ish.

I think this team will be seeded somewhere four to seven. Four seed in B1G tourney is important cuz you don't have to play on Thursdays.

But its going to be a lot of fun to talk about this for the next seven months.

settle down sparkies! jon is right. take a breath. NCAA's are an expectation, for sure. but let's settle down on the sweet sixteen talk. sure it could happen, but is that what you would call a reasonable expectation? i'd say that's more the ceiling of the team, esp considering the tough conference schedule as jon mentioned.

I know some (especially Dakich) have said that the Hawks could be the favorite next year in the B1G. Not gonna happen. I think they picked to finish 4th or 5th. They could surprise and win it, but I don't think that they should be picked to win it. They are going to be much better, but hey they were only 9-9 this year. They still have the potential to lose to the PSU, Nebby, and Purdues of the B1G. I think they will do well but my guess is 4-5th in B1G and a 6 seed in the tourney.

I agree MeatMan people are just out of control around here.

I would be peferctly happy with Iowa finishing 5th or 6th in the Big 10 and getting a 7-10 seed. From that point I would like to see Iowa win at least one NCAA tournament game.

Seems pretty reasonable expectations.........

Stop with Iowa wining the Big 10 next year. That is not going to happen.

Iowa had two, maybe 3 legit losses in the B1G this season. (Indiana, Michigan, OSU) The rest were close games, and most they SHOULD have won. They easily could have been sitting at 3 losses the end of the conference season, and a FIRST PLACE finish in the B1G.

Iowa at this point is just as good as any team in this conference. I am expecting a top 3 finish and a deep run in the NCAA tournament next year. I'm thinking Final 4 Deep. These are not unrealistic expectations. That's my opinion.

I'd go with somewhere between 4th and 6th in B1G, with a 6, 7, or 8 seed in the NCAA tournament.

Getting production from two out of the following three folks will be important and cannot be determined at this point: (1) Oglesby; (2) Utoff; and (3) Jok.

Dakich said that 'depending on who leaves'.

If Payne and Harris leave MSU, and Burke and Robinson leave Michigan and Thomas leaves OSU, and Zeller and Oladipo both leave Indiana, sure, Iowa can be a chique pick for a contender. But all those things probly wont happen.

That said, I still think Iowa can be a contender if they hold serve at home against those teams. Iowa is going to be an experienced and battle tested team next year...a team who lost a lot of close games and has grown through that experience. There probably won't be too much that is going to rattle them next year.

That said, they will still have to prove they can become a better three-point shooting team. Jok made em in HS, but so did Oglesby. Josh needs to regain some confidence. This team is still short on players who can get to the rim off the dribble. White needs to develop some half court offensive moves. Who knows what Jok and Uthoff will bring.

Iowa has just enough question marks and lacks the personell like the teams mentioned to keep crazy expectations in check.

Let me clarify. I think Iowa COULD be good enough to finish top 3 in conference and make a deep run into the tourney. BUT....my expectation is to finish top 6 in conference and AT LEAST make the tourney.

Based on how many close games Iowa played this year, they can already hang with anyone. No denying that. I think losing Eric May will have a pretty big impact, but another year older for this team only makes them that much more dangerous. If Iowa can develop or add a solid outside shooting threat then the sky is the limit for them.

Not sure why people think MSU and OSU will be so much better than Iowa next year. The Hawks played each of them extremely tough and close this season.

An NCAA invite - essential. One win - expected. A couple of tournament wins - would be nice to get to the Sweet Sixteen. After that, it's all about who has the hot hand and a little luck on their side.

BTW, hate to do this; however, I feel compelled - it's "berth".

Haven't put a lot a thought and research into next year, but then that's what fan forums are for, amirite?!

Therefore, I'd say I expect 4th or 5th in the B1G.

Trying to predict next season's post-season is just cray-cray. Even for a fan forum.

So, basically, you expect a repeat of this year, when Iowa finished alone in 6th place?

MSU and Mich were both legit contenders this year until the last week of the season. They finished 3rd & 4th, respectively. When I say "contender", I'm saying Iowa will be as legit a candidate as those teams and be in the mix toward the end of the season. They still might finish 4th-6th.

As mentioned, the Hawks have several developmental factors that need to fall into place. They also need a little help with attrition from the other teams. However, they met your 6th-place expectations, this year, against all those players on all those teams.

Wisky loses their front court. Michigan goes as Burke goes and Burke will most likely be gone. Both losses to MSU (with Nix and Harris, who, both might be gone) were by 3, after blowing late leads. Even if Zeller stays (I think Oli will leave), Indiana becomes more 1-dimensional, losing their 3-point threats. Right now, I see OhioST as the preseason favorite and Iowa / MSU / Michigan / Indiana (depending on Zeller and VO decisions) as the next 4.

Top half of the conference, tourney lock outside shot at a BIG title but some things would have to go our way.

It's a bit too early to really predict much. But I feel pretty safe saying a 5th place finish with 1 NCAA tournament win would be just fine as far as I am concerned. Of course if Iowa gets all the breaks they could be a top 3 team but if they have things go agains them they could finish in 7th place as well. There are a lot of varibles but I feel pretty safe saying they make the tournament and will have a shot to win their first game at least.
