What Are the Chances That ....

... Iowa State and Northern Iowa end up in the same conference after the realignments, and why?

Here's my thought. It's possible, but not likely (maybe a 20% chance). UNI has a very good football program who I think can compete against the bottom half of the BCS Division 1 teams on a consistent basis. If Iowa State does not hook up with a major conference along with the Kansas teams a new conference could form that may include UNI (provided UNI wants to move up with the Division 1 BCS schools).

Less than zero. UNI can barely afford their athletics at the level they are currently at. Nowhere near enough revenue to even consider moving up.

And they can barely afford it even with state assistance through taxes unlike Iowa which is self sufficient.

This may be a reason to move up. Increased revenue in the BCS. That said the football facilities will probably need an upgrade and that won't be cheap.

The dome is too small for FBS, I think the minimum capacity required is either 25k or 30k.

I was told over the weekend by a local businessman and realtor the NCAA recently increased it to 40K. Even if UNI builds a new stadium, not sure they would fill it for some time. Also, with the increased revenue coming in by moving up to the BCS I'm not sure if it will be enough to justify building a new stadium.

You folks are right. It looks like the chances are slim and none with none probably being the better of the two.

I think you're forgetting that if these schools change conferences it's NOT just for football, it's for all sports and UNI has proven they can't support ALL sports.

This thread is about as good as the ISU-Iowa merger thread.

Let's just dissolve ISU and UNI and call it done.
