What are the chances a true freshman plays on the offensive line?

James Daniels and the Paulsen twins seem very legit. All 3 are already big for incoming lineman, they each seem to have the skill to compete early on also. Daniels has already enrolled so he has a leg up in that department. He is listed as a center, I'd guess he could also play guard. The Paulsens are tackes/ guards. This is a good mix to have. It looks like they could compete with players on the January depth chart. I think at least 1 plays. What do you all think?

Hopefully not...usually the biggest transition is on the offensive line, as these 18 year olds will be going against 22 year old grown men who have been in a college weight program for 4 years. The speed and physicality of the college game as opposed to the HS level is night and day, regardless of the size of the kid coming out of HS. Not saying it couldn't be done, but I would think it'd take a very special athlete to make it happen and be successful with it...

Having said all that, given how ineffective we were this year in the running game, if a kid came in with size and decent technique, I can't imagine there's anyone locked into a position with the exception of Blythe. Guard play was spotty at best this year and both tackles are gone, IIRC...

What do you know about Ross Reynolds? How well set is he as second left guard? He will be a red shirt freshman. Are there any Waukee fans on this form that know about him? These 3 freshman do seem to be special athletes so maybe.

I doubt it. Blythe can move back to Center and guys like Keppy and Boettger will step in. Possibly a RS Freshman.

Daniels in my eyes has the best shot to play early. But as incoming freshmen I agree, they won't start right away because it's sort of a big transition and they all need to learn their assignments and adapt. They even need to learn how to block the fullback stretch

I don't think any of them will win a job out right. Injuries to the other guys is always the X factor. Ideally they'd like to redshirt them all. I love the class of them though I think Daniels will step in next year to replace Blythe. The Paulson twins more then likely will be a guard tackle combo on the same side of the line. Weather that's 2 yrs or 3 down the line is the question but I don't think they'll play right away.

Barring injury, very little chance a true frosh plays oline. Let's hope we don't Need a frosh to play. It's a Huge jump from HS to B1G oline and every one of these guys need at least 1 year development, both physically and technique. A 5* from an elite HS...maybe...in a pinch.

Hopefully we have the option to redshirt them all.

Go Hawks.

Daniels is the only one I see having a chance to come in a play immediately. But I agree with every one else there will have to be some major shaking up on the Oline for him to hit the field this soon

Can an incoming freshman participate in spring ball? Curious when the eligibility kicks in. Daniels for example was not a freshman in the 2014-2015 season, as he was in HS. Was. Now that he is here training, can he participate in spring ball? Training is one thing, but being a part of team events is another... In basketball it would be a year of eligibility, partaking in the spring semester.

Yes...he will participate in Spring ball. there are actually a couple of freshmen that enrolled early...the lineman from Hartley did too right? I know Daniels will. I doubt he will have a shot at starting because he's on the interior, but you never know. Center is a tough, tough spot for a freshman to start...line calls, etc...mentally difficult.

If Daniels can handle center, we are better with Blythe and Walsh at guards and putting Welsh maybe at right tackle. We have to see how the tackles shake out...the bad news...none have really played...the good news...they aren't RS Freshmen either. Most of these guys have been in the program at least three years now. That's positive.
