What are the chance we land a a coach that no one has listed yet?

Or, it is more likely that the next coach at Iowa has already been listed on the message boards. Which is more likely of the two?

That is a good question. The last time Barta hired a coach I do not remember anyone suggesting TL.

I remember doing this three years ago and I know I never typed Todd Lickliter at any point in time until it was clear he was who got the job. I never really saw him listed anywhere.

BUT, there have been so many names posted to the board this time around that it will be mildly surprising if he wasn't on one of the lists :)

OP raised a question that I thought about earlier today.

I have to think that Iowa will hire someone that has been on the "legit" radar of some. If not, I hope it is someone that we didn't think would be on the radar, but in a good way. :)

I guess only time will tell.

One would sincerely hope that Barta is cognizant of the opinions and considerations of the fan base this time. This decision is like working on a timed bomb. If he successfully lands a high-profile candidate that Iowans will rally behind, he's diffused the threat. If he divides the fans any further (if at all possible) this thing is going to blow up big time.

Barta needs sales revenue NOW. He can't gamble with a no-namer that won't draw in a crowd.

after all the speculation, it would not surprise me to see a name get hired that noone thought of. after all lick was not mentioned anywhere on anyone's wish list.

Barta can do whatever he wants, but he knows his job might actually be affected by failure in this task this time around. There are very few coaches who would have a major immediate impact on advance ticket sales, and it's unlikely we'll land one of those. As much as we'd all like to have an instant hero, the real story is what happens in recruiting and on the court in the next couple of years. If we land someone who keeps our existing squad intact and holds onto the signed recruits, and/or adds to them/fills gaps with his own recruits or transfers who look good, we still have a good chance to show improvement in year one and get this thing moving in the right direction.

I hope that was one of the problems with bold face type & six underlines on this years search committee meeting minutes

So should we be surprised if guys like Armstrong, Lavin, Majerous, or other names get higher consideration than the more desired canidates like Dixon, Pearl ect...?

Absolutely not. Those names have been thrown around like a frisbee since the Big Ten Tournament.
