What a fucking offensive mess!!

Just got home after the drive back from Iowa City. Listened to Soundoff, got home and had a couple of beers, read alot of peoples posts on HN and I have to say that this offensive coaching staff is pure shit.

No other way to say it. There seems to be no element of offensive planning going on. For example, I watched the Purdue coaches game plan attacking our safeties last week to open up and free their wide receivers one on one and we dont do that.

The hawks went deep 4 times, a 28 yd td catch, a PI call, a 40+ yard catch to ihmir smith, and an incompletion, 3 for 4 is pretty good.

You know Patty Fitz is going to load the box and take away Iowa's running game like he always does because he knows Iowa cant or wont usually beat him with the passing game. That is the reason to beat him deep.

I am almost without words here people. Nate had a good line but is still missing and not seeing open receivers. I have no idea what the Fant deal is.

Now to the running game. Toren Young runs for 11 yards on a straight ahead blast play on his first carry, by far better than IKM or Sargenatn . Young gets 2 more carries while our brainiac O Coord Brian tries to run wide when we havent been able to run wide all year.

OUr offensive line is not quick and athletic, maybe they can clock straight ahead.

I thought Brian and Kirk were run blocking gurus but they are now lost.

A change is needed, either a new OC or Kirk needs to retire.

I'm tired of it. Year in and year out, this offense costing us games.

Running into an 8 man front, check downs and dump offs all game long.

Seemed like we were actually trying to stretch the field some earlier in the year against Minnesota, Indiana, etc. Don't know why the offense decided to crawl back into it's shell, but I was having flashbacks to the Greg Davis era today.

I dont mind running into an 8 man line if you pull a guard and run to a certain hole where you are trying to outnumber the defenders. But to keep running outside zone all year when the line is not athletic or fast enough is crazy.

This offensive line cant go wide, we should run straight ahead and with some counter plays, and pass the ball.

Fant has a higher vertical leap than LEBRON FKN JAMES.

Look, Nate, if you're so hellbent on staring down receivers, stare down Fant and throw high. Kirk and Bri, to make it easier for Nate, don't send out any other receivers.

No DB or LB can out jump Fant.

Stare down (cuz you're gonna anyway) and throw high.

I have been telling you guys for sometime that KF doesn't game plan! He is stuck in the werwe going to do what we do and the other team can plan to stop it! Problem is Kirk they all know how to do it now! Last year at the pee-st game I watched their corners never even jam our receivers at the LOS but run straight to the back field to stop run game and Kirk never adjusted to throw to uncontested receivers! It's all him and finally even some of the Homer's are seeing it or finally admitting it!

I have known it but just hoped it would change, The Ferentz boys are not going to change. Steven Ferentz will soon be on the staff, and there are so many other top coaches out there if Kirk doesnt change his ways.

I am totally against Brian getting the head job while never being a head coach elsewhere

Just how good was Whatley to make this crappy offense look good at times last year. He saved Nate's bacon all year.

I got an email from my Dad a couple hours ago. He has had season tickets for 17 straight years... he just told me he's done.
My Dad, who bleeds Black & Gold like me is not going to renew his (4) tickets next season.
Thanks KF-BF, you've taken the love of all things Iowa Football and ruined it for one of Iowa's dearest and most devoted fans.

I have the same feeling and it hurts. It's not like we are a inexperienced team, it just sucks to be outcoached, and it's not fair to the players.

Speaking of bad coaching, if you remember in the first half jNW threw and incomplete pass on first down and they were also called for an illegal shift. Illegal shift is a penalty that can be declined and most coaches would rather, after the incomplete pass, decline the penalty and have it be 2nd down and 10 rather than 3rd an 15. This is not 3 yards and a cloud of dust college football anymore and giving a team a down over for a 5 yard penalty is not smart coaching.

To be fair though the next play resulted in 2nd and 11 or 12 which was still better for us than the resulting 2nd and 10 you wanted.

What do you expect? The only qualification our OC has for the job is his last name. Meanwhile, we have a PROVEN, SUCCESSFUL former OC coaching the offensive line. A position he has NEVER coached before. BRILLIANT!

The Ferentz apologists like to point out that Brian coached under Belichick. Well.....where is all this coaching wisdom he supposedly learned?

Exactly right. Only at Iowa is this allowed to happen.

Stanley had a decent looking stat sheet yesterday because 23 of his throws were within 3 yards of the line of scrimmage. That is the only reason. Check down, check down, check down. He is terrible. Throwing 2 yard passes when we need to go 90 yards with no timeouts. NW had no pass defense, and they had 3 second string defensive backs starting yesterday, and what do we do? Throw laterally all friggin game because our QB is awful, can't see open receivers if they actually get open, and can't consistently complete a pass over 10 yards. Beautiful game plan Brian. Real offensive genius you are, with the eternal I have to take a massive shit look on your face.

Damn! Original post was from 2018. How the offensive changes taking place? And the elephant in the room is.....?
