IOWA is ranked 18 indy 17 isu is 8th
I may be a bit off but it SEEMS like, almost every time IOWA has 2-3 studs at the the same position we have a great season.
Our LBs are just nasty and a year older bigger stronger and faster! Campbell, Benson and Jacobs are the real deal !!!
Thoughts ?
GO Hawks!

I like your thoughts. I think the pieces are in place.

Can Petras perform on the road in hostile stadiums? Jack Trice? Camp Randall? At Northwestern? At Maryland at night? In Lincoln? That will tell the tale. He had happy feet A LOT last year in empty stadiums. I have a nagging doubt that the other QB might be better...…(typical fan)

Hey! We would be crazy not to worry about the issues you raised. But those are problems with all QB’s every year. I think Petras will do well this season.

I agree, and I like the back QB (who doesn't) a lot. If you watch QB1 release point last year, the point of the ball is going up .. add in the fact he is 6ft 5 and you get a lot of the over throws,.. I get the ball needs a bit of air under it but this is an easy fix... as is his 7 step drop.. last year he had way to deep a drop ... he needs to be one a, 123 go! or 3 step drop, with lots of slants or seem routes quick hits, they build confidence, but I'm sure the coaches saw all that and will make changes... funny thing though, in the VERY small sample size I saw from Padilla except for his 1st throw ever .. his passes were "in the hands and leading the receiver....

It looked like the last 6 games of last season there were routes called that opened quickly with guys in space and Petras was coached to take those quick easy pass completions and the YAC that comes with Tracy and other people running the ball after the catch

He's the X factor hands down... He hasn't had a real road game yet. It's his time to shit or get off the pot. Now that he's had a season, spring ball and fall practice behind him he'll have no excuses. We'll know after the ISU game what kind of season to expect. Even if we lose those first two games but look good doing it keeping em close at lease we should have hopes to run the table from there. (pretty much like last yr)

But if we get smoked and Petras looks shaky and maybe even gets yanked.... That wouldn't be good. Not good at all.

If memory serves, NW and Wisc. open the season with each other. Winner has leg up in the West.

Not sure about Wisconsin, but I know Northwestern plays Sparty to open the season. I think Wisconsin might play Penn State. I know OSU plays Minnesota. I remember looking at the schedule and thinking that the winner of the Nebraska-Illinois game could be set up pretty nice after week 1 due to the difficulty of the crossover games in week 1.
