Well, here we go...

Not a bad loss at all. Can this team shake it off and keep doing what they've been doing going forward? I thought Woody and Clemmons looked great. Wisconsin lost @ Maryland and Rutgers last season (and only beat 2 ranked Big Ten teams all year). They made the finals.

I really felt bad for Gesell tonight. Have got to make those free throws and can't turn the ball over like that. Jok forced too many shots. I hope they burn this game film like they did the Iowa State game.

Any other concerns tonight?

Coming into the season I was very concerned about lack of depth behind Woody. Hasn't been an issue before tonight really. Uhl needs a LOT of work on his defense and his strength. Did Wagner even play in the 2nd half?

It was our worst shooting night in I don't know how long. Uthoff and Uhl aren't going to shoot that poorly most games. Woodbury shouldn't have fouled out. Two of the fouls on him were straight up bad calls. We just couldn't stop them inside with Woodbury out of the game. I would have preferred to see Wagner instead of Uhl because Uhl was just getting abused down low. Wagner has the build to bang with some of those bigs.

Hopefully the Iowa bench will re-emerge...Baer's shot seemingly has been tapering off for several games now. Perhaps lack of depth in the middle will really hurt us against a competent, athletic, and brusing opposing centers.

Ahmad didn't see the court in the second half and I'm not sure why. Bottom line is if iowa loses on the road to a top 10 team when uthoff isn't hitting anything, it's not that bad of a loss

I think Wagner played for a short burst. Uhl was great in the first and awful in the second. Wagner should have got more of a chance.

Don't want to be too critical here, but I don't understand why Wagner didn't see the court. Uhl was way overmatched.

At least give him a 3-4 minute stretch to see how he does. Uhl was getting schooled.

If Fran gives us another one of those, "Looking back I should have played Player X more", I am going to pull out the rest of my hair.

Maryland missing all of those 3 pt shots kept us in the game. If they hit 30% in the 2nd half it's a 12 -15 pt win.

Uhl cannot fall in love with the jumpshot. You cannot bail out Stone, Dodd, etc. by just taking contested jumpers all game. Drive to the hoop. The same thing with Uthoff. It's one thing with Layman, but you've got to attack Carter.

Obviously, Woody in foul trouble was killer, but I think the main problem is that Uhl didn't take advantage of his advantages enough in the second half.

This loss is a little frustrating because the opportunities were there to win the game. I feel like we let Maryland get away with only being OK offensively.

This is still a good team. On to the next one.

You can't "if they would have" when we were terrible too.

Uhl playing in the second half is also a product of him playing well in the first half. His offense is a big mismatch for the opposing team. Also pulls a big out of the middle of defense. Wagner wouldn't have done this. Uhl had some poor decisions in 2nd half, but still should have been in there.

If Wagner plays instead of Uhl we are all asking why he didn't play Uhl after the great first half. Coaching is so simple after the game is played.

Maryland is a mismatch nightmare for most teams. Maryland did leave the door open with missed shots. I would like to get another shot at them in the tournament at neutral site.

Two very bad calls on Woody. Fifth foul was total horsesheet, should have been on the Terp. Derp.

I'm not discouraged by this loss at all. Yeah, it sucks, but if we're still in it at the end of the game with one of the best teams in the country when our best player doesn't contribute, just about everybody's shot is off, and we can't hit free throws to save our lives, I'll take it. I don't think we'll have many, if any more games like that this year.

And better non-B1G officials. Actually, that's redundant. By definition any college officials from outside the conference have to be better .... with the exception being Conference USA.

We played pretty mediocre and had many chances to take that game and only lost by 6. Gesell has really disappointed the last few games. He can't be so inconsistent in March. Hope he gets it turned around quick cause this team needs him

I agree. I am just saying they were hurting us inside- they weren't hitting from outside in the 2nd half. There was ample opportunity to give Wagner some minutes to be physical. Of course Uhl would get the majority of minutes.

My only criticism of Fran is that his sphincter seems to get a little tight or something in close games down the stretch. Do his substitution patterns and bench coaching change?? Does he process fast enough? Think ahead through scenarios? Did Ellingson also not play in the 2nd half? He was coming off his best game.

This is the first close game we have had in the conference. That's pretty amazing in itself. Kudos to him and the players.

Our best player struggled, our interior depth was exposed (can we finally acknowledge Woody's importance to this team?) and Maryland toughed it out. No shame.

Meh....luke warm effort against a team of ballers who'll mostly end up in the NBA.

On the road.

Just can't let MD beat us twice.
