We will be 12-0

If, as I assume, we beat Purdue handily Saturday, I have no doubt this team beats Nebby in Lincoln. Iowa football has had a way of winning the really big game when huge stakes are on the line, especially in the old days when the Big Ten champion was a lock for the Rose Bowl. The coaches and players then had a laser-like focus on grabbing the prize. In this case, the prize is going undefeated into the CCG and being considered for the college football playoff.

Book it: 12-0. Ohio State should be worried.

1-3 against Nebraska the last 4 years. I have no idea how one could be confident going into Lincoln.

Nebraska gets a bye week to rest & get healthy, and prep. Iowa plays short a day's rest.

Nebraska will be playing for bowl eligibility, and to ruin Iowa's perfect season, and have played better lately.

This is a scary game.

I disagree. The Cornhuskers will have two weeks to prepare for Iowa. In contrast, Iowa has a short week with Thanksgiving the day before the game in Lincoln. Because of this everything is setting up pretty nicely for Nebraska. Plus, if Iowa beats Purdue the game might be like the last three-quarters against Minnesota in '90.

We are a much better team than Nebraska but it's hardly a gimme, especially in Lincoln. They always seem to get very favorable calls in Lincoln. They beat MSU on a horse manure call, otherwise I think they would have quit as a team by now. They definitely quit the Purdue game on defense.

I hope everyone (the media, not here) does count them out. All we heard was how Indiana was coming off a bye and would upset Iowa. Hard to believe an 11-0 team could still be playing with a chip on their shoulders. As for the one less day of prep for Iowa, they have a mandatory off day every week on Thursday's anyway and next week the off day will be Saturday. Then get together on Sunday to start prep for the B1G Championship.

I almost WANT us to lose. Why? Because I am WAY tired of hearing BTN Talking Heads saying--OVER and freaking OVER--"Mike Riley is such a great guy!"

If they win, they might stop.

Never mind, they won't, so I hope we absolutely abuse them. But my confidence level is about 50/50. All the factors above regarding the Nebraska bye week, our "short" week, our recent D shortcomings, but most of all, the "conspiracy" thing. "They" just HAVE to be gunning for the Hawks to lose a game before BIG CG.

i don't remember Iowa always winning the really big game when high stakes on the line.

Classic example, 2009 OSU game was the defacto Big Ten championship game and Iowa lost. Not saying Iowa played bad, but did not win.

Last year in 2014 if Iowa wins last 2 games against Wisc and Neb, they would have won the west, but instead Iowa went 0-2.

I think its more the case of Iowa wins the big game, its remembered as a big game and when they lose, its remembered as just another game.

Yeah... No. Iowa dependably clinching the big games is a very recent phenomenon. As in September of 2015 recent. In recent memory Iowa seemed to stumble every time they had an opportunity to shine. They were often the "Chokeyes". This team just feels different. This year feels different. I believe we will win in Lincoln because of the trajectory of this season, not for any historical (real or imagined) reasons.

If Stanzi doesn't get hurt I think Iowa runs the table in 2009, so I don't think you can use that as an example. JVB was making his first career start and at the Horseshoe isn't exactly the most ideal spot.

Last year I agree but that was last year. This team has a different mindset and more leadership. Last year's team wouldn't be 10-0 right now, in fact they probably lose to ISU, Wisc, Indiana and Minnesota and would be sitting at 6-4 right now.

Like many of the previous posts, the week off for Nebby concerns me. However, it depends on how they choose to use it. It can be a blessing or a curse. In the old days some the Neb players would've used the down time to get drunk / high, chase co-eds, and knock over convenience stores. It depends on if the times have changed there. Best case for Iowa is a pretty easy victory Sat. with the game put away mid 3rd quarter, rest the starters, and go in with confidence sky high and hitting on all cylinders. Time will tell. Lets take care of our business Saturday and lock up the West. I WOULD feel better if the shuckers had to play a game Saturday I guess.

Guess I feel the opposite (assuming you're referring to Nebraska), it won't bother me if everyone is saying Nebraska is going to beat Iowa and ruin their perfect season. I guess I don't mind any bulletin board material for our team. Not that I really think they need it, with a game against Nebby and a shot at the 12-0 season, but still.

Not sure if it's apples to apples, but everyone was saying Davidson would beat Iowa in the NCAA tourney last year. We won by 30.

Big Ten teams coming off a bye week in conference games are below .500 in recent years. Statistically speaking, the bye week is a disadvantage.

This, of course, doesn't account for the short week for Iowa, which probably is also a disadvantage.

Ok, assume the hawks beat Purdont which they should especially with better pass defense.

the 11-0 hawks should win in Lincoln 1) if CJ is healthy and 2) if the defense can rattle and forces Armstrong into just an avg game.

Tommy Armstrong only has two settings:
Awful Armstrong
Awesome Armstrong

In his football game, there is no try, only do or do not.

True, but Bye Week Rust is real.

Iowa will take care of business and silence that crowd early! Iowa won the last time they went there too these guys will not be intimidated. Remember too they played most of the second half with CJB, so he is also undefeated against Nebraska.
