If we don't land Texas I think this whole expanding idea is going to hurt the Big 10 in the long run.

A Pac-16 network with L.A. #2 U.S. Market, San Francisco #5 Dallas #6, Houston #10, Phoenix #13, Seattle #14, Sacramento #20, and #23 Portland. That makes up 50% of top 6 markets, 40% of the top 10 T.V. markets and 40% of the top 15 T.V. markets.

Vise versa, if the Big 10 lands just Texas... we have #3 Chicago, #4 Philadelphia, #6 Dallas, #10 Houston, #11 Detroit, #15 Minneapolis, #17 Cleveland, #22 Pittsburgh, #25 Indianapolis. That's 50% of the top 6 markets, 40% of the top 10.

15-20 years from now the Big 10 rust belt cities will likely all fall a few spots down the T.V. market list. Some will probably fall 10 spots. We need Texas for the future of our conference.

No "we" don't.

Wasn't aware that you were on the team. The Big 10 doesn't need Texas. Theoretically, the Big 10 need to add anyone.

This.

The Big Ten could decide not to expand, and it would be just fine. It is the most stable entity in all of collegiate sports.

Briankaldenberg, as with your certainty Oklahoma will join the Big 10, your comments about Texas are somewhat misinformed or misstated. Would the Big Ten be better off with Texas in the conference economically? Without question, but does the Big 10 need Texas? I would submit to you they do not. Your premise is that if the Big Ten doesn't get Texas than expansion ultimately hurts the Big Ten. I think if Texas goes West to help form the PAC 16, that conference along with expansion with the Big Ten and SEC would leave the 3 superconferences pretty equal in TV sets and national exposure. While population shifts don't help the Big Ten, adding Rutgers (NYC) and Maryland (DC/Baltimore/Arlington) would accomplish adding top TV markets. I think the Big Ten could use Texas (if they would come in as a normal member with no perks - equal revenue distribution, etc.), but I don't think the numbers support the lack of Texas leading to the diminishing of the Big Ten in the next 2 decades.

Also, remember that just because populations are shifting, the Big Ten has some of the largest institution in the country. Alumni may move away, but they still donate and send their kids to their alma maters.

You make Sarah Palin look like a genius.

Keep in mind, college sports in some of those top markets isn't the big game in town like it is around here. You think people in SFO are really into Stanford football? Nope.

We don't need Texas as much as they need us,Big 12 is getting torn apart. Why doesn't the Southern schools form there own conf. that way they could bring in TCU and take any of the schools in the Big 12 left out.Just a thought

Times change, though. What is true this year may not be true in 10-20 years, and I think Delaney sees this. It is called vision.

No we don't. We (Iowa) really don't. If all those Texas schools join our league, we will be put in a division that would look like a modified Big XII.
