We have 4 potential 1st round picks

In the trenches. On D we have Clayborn and Ballard and on the oline we have Reiff who has another two years to improve his stock and also MacMillan, who still has another 3 years to improve his stock after this year. Who knows what type of noise Zuse can make if he stays consistent over the next year and a half.

I wouldn't count out Daniels down the road, either. What he lacks in overall size he makes up for in strength and quickness. King was exceptionally quick, but it seems like Daniels is a lot stronger than King was.

McNutt has NFL size and hands already. If he really REALLY shines next year and has a huge season absent DJK, he could also become a first-rounder. But at this point I'd definitely see Daniels going in the first round in a couple seasons.

The OP was just talking about in the trenches. But, either DJK or McNutt could be a first rounder. No way both of them are. One of them is going to be in a loaded class (there are a LOT of juniors are redshirt sophomores who could come out this year).

Whoops! I should have noticed that. My bad.

I love DJK and Marvin, but are either of them fast enough to warrant first round draft status? I think both will get drafted...just not sure either is first round fast.

DJK will not be a first rounder even if he has a huge year this year.

His hands are too small, he catches with his body frequently, and he doesn't have NFL break away speed. Those things scouts prize at the next level above all else.

Maybe a late late late second round, but that's a stretch. More like a 3rd round thru 5th round prospect.

Don't get me wrong. DJK is my favorite player in the Ferentz era outside of Bob Sanders.

McNutt would have to have a huge year this year and next, and then on top of that run a 40 in the 4.4's at the combine. Let's not forget NFL scouts are 40 yard dash whores.

WAY too early to tell for the other guys.

Daniels is only 6'1 275, guys that big aren't first rounders.

Like I said, he's undersized like King. But he plays with what I think is equal to King's quickness, and he's much stronger. And that's just right now. He's still got time in college.

I think you nailed everything on the head except for McNutt's 40. I think if all the things happen and he could put up at least a 4.5 with his size, it may get him into first round status.

I tend to agree. There could be more, many more over the next 3 years. I love how the Iowa coaches evaluate talent. I will take any 3 star recruit that they go after.

However King didn't even get drafted at all. I like the rest would love to believe that the Hawks have a Round 1 draft pick at every position, but it takes on helluva player to go in Round 1. The hawks will be likely to have a few on the entire team. I think Clayborn and Reiff are, but outside of that, nobody in the trenches is better than round 2- and that is dang good in itself.

I still think Ballard can play his way into Round 1. He's big, very athletic for his size (not Suh athletic, but very athletic nonetheless), and VERY versatile. He's played well at DE for us this year in a 4-3. I would think that he could be a very good prospect for a 3-4 DE or and 4-3 DT.

If Ballard continues to improve as he has ... and if he puts up the sort of numbers he's capable of putting up at the combine ... Ballard could DEFINITELY sneak up into the 1st round.

Ballard's production may not always be as gawdy as some of our other guys ... but his tape is still pretty impressive. When you combine that with how NFL-types LOVE measureables ... Ballards brings the goods on all levels.

I think that some folks are underestimating Klug's NFL value. NFL scouts are going to look at him and notice that he's both taller and faster than King ... and I really think that that will end up counting for something. When you look at Klug's measureables ... and then remember that Norm Parker speaks of Klug in the same sentence as Roth and King ... the guy is definitely going to get his shot in the league.

Right, but were talking about first round picks, which Mitch King was not.

This thread is ridiculous...

Out of anyone on our current roster Clayborn and possibly Reiff are the only ones that you could make a case for and not look like a complete mouth breathing homer.

I think we have a lot of potential draft picks, but to say we currently have 3-4 first rounders on our roster is insane.

At least at this point.
