We got out intensity-d...

What happened Saturday was, plain and simple, a lack of intensity by Iowa. It was pretty much the same thing as what happened against Arizona St. only this time we did mount a comeback. Arizona wanted this game way more than we did. They had it marked on their calendar, had a "red out" called for it and their coach was extremely hyped for this game. That hype he passed on to his team and the fan base.
Iowa knew they were in for a tough game, but I think they did not expect the energy that Arizona played the whole game with. We have done the same thing to high ranked teams in the past too (Penn State '08, Florida and LSU) so we know how it feels to be the giver in that situation. Now we now how it feels to receive also.
We needed to come into Tuscon with the mindset that we took to Illinois with Nick Bell and company (sorry I don't remember the year). I remember we were up by 28, I think and Hayden went for a fake field goal that worked. I thought at the time "Boy, Hayden is going for the jugular today". That is how you play at an opposing stadium. You have to have more intensity than the home team does and then ram it down their throats.
We can still play for the Big Ten championship. This year is not a total loss yet and I am pretty embarrassed by those of you who feel it is and can only knock down a team that just a few days ago you were heralding as the possible second coming.
I will be at the Ball St. game, yelling my lungs out as usual, supporting the only reason I have to suffer through Iowa summers; Iowa Football. I hope you will too.

then how on earth did Iowa come back from a 27-7 lead? If Arizona was playing harder than us then how is it possible for Iowa to come back from 20 points when the other team is playing harder? You do realize that it isn't as simply as just "coming into Tucson with an Illinois mindset," don't you? Sports doesn't work like that. If that was the case, why didn't Iowa State come into Iowa City with a mindset like it was 2002?

Arizona made some huge plays in the beginning stages of the game (and Iowa made some very poor ones) that gave Arizona the lead. Then Iowa made some huge plays (and Arizona some bad ones) that made the game tied. That's how a game goes between two teams with talent that have come to play. I don't know about the Arizona players "wanting it more" than the Iowa team. From what I saw effort was not the issue on Saturday. Arizona's "intensity" or whatever you call it nearly cost them the game as the rash of personal fouls and outright stupid penalties in the second half contributed greatly to field position and to Iowa getting stops.

I would agree that the rest of the season could have much to offer this Iowa team.
