We didnt clobber poor Illini interior defense - why settle for long jumpers...

Woody was having a a great game on the pick and roll but I dont think he saw enough 2nd half action. And we maybe could have fouled eqwu (sp?) out earlier before he went 9 over his average.

White and Gabe should have been used more in this type of inside game.

Instead we settled for a lot of long jumpers we were missing.

The Illini many times had a 4 guard lineup which we should have pummeled inside.

The players and coaches on this poorer outside shooting team need to recognize this and work for much higher percentage shots.

I believe this to be one our biggest problems and not just against Illinois. We very seldom get the ball to the bigs down low. In the first half come back this was the key.

Excellent point. I watched from the top of CHA last night and was surprised that Groce came out of his zone. Illini went zone and Iowa settled for long jump shots. Often times, holding the ball on the wing before moving the ball from side to side. Very basic basketball - if the ball stops moving the zone can reset and rest. Also, the ball would stay on one side of the floor. This team has regressed and I worry about mental make up if they don't make the tournament.

Let's remember that Jok and Oglesby played 37 mins at the #2 leaving marble to put his minutes in at #3.

Those took minutes from Mel (14) Uthoff (8 and zero in 2h).

Oglesby and Jok combined for 0 rebounds, 0 FTs, and marble only 2 rebounds. They are perimeter players, so. You are going to get 3 pt shots, no rebounds, and o trips to the FT line. Which is the exact opposite of how IOWA got to there high ranking, rebound margin, trips to the FT line, and high eFG% (like Mel and Uthoff).

Hard to pound it in side when you've got 3 guards in game.

I totally disagree. We almost always have either Woody or Gabe in the game and White and Uhtoff at 6'9" are big enough.

When we ran pick and roll against their man we ate it up.

When they went to zone you can still get it inside if you set some high screens and the screener moves to the basket or quick ball movement can let a big guy get the seal off inside.
